Reflection on Our Cover

Thomas stood there and told the rest of the apostles, “I don’t, won’t, can’t accept this wild tale you are telling me.” When Jesus appeared again, he didn’t yell or get all bent out of shape about Thomas’ doubts. He invited Thomas to touch his wounds and then asked him to believe (perhaps indicating that even touching the wounds might not be enough). Then he had a word for all others who would be disciples in the future: “Blessed are those who have not seen and have be-lieved” (John 20:29). Everyone since that select group in the beginning has come to believe on the strength of another’s word. Perhaps it was a parent or friend or teacher or some religious figure. Perhaps it was a book, a movie, or even a television show. Sometimes the invitation to believe comes out of the blue - a soul-shattering event, an unexpected experience; sometimes, from within - an inner restlessness, a seeking after answers to life’s questions. But when the invitation to believe comes, it calls for a leap. It comes down to an act of trust in the word of another, ultimately in the word of God. Living the Word

From the Pastor's Desk Dear Parishioners, Easter: Happy Easter again to you and your fami-lies! Jesus Christ is risen indeed, Alleluia, Alleluia! The Risen Lord fills our lives with peace and joy and keeps raising us to newer levels of love and sac-rifice, service and selflessness. Because of the Easter Lord, we have reason to hope, strength to love, generosity to share. Let’s keep exploring the concrete meaning of: “What does the Risen Christ do for me? Do I allow him to lead me to where he wants me to be?” RCIA: One of the heartening experiences at Easter time is to see more people embracing the Catholic faith as a guiding light. This Easter vigil I was privi-leged to baptize six members into the body of Christ. Eight other RCIA candidates will be con-firmed by the Archbishop on the Pentecost. As we congratulate them, the question we can explore is: Do I live by the faith which these young men and women are embracing with a great sense of wonder? Do I cling to Christ in and through the scriptures, the Eucharist, and in the unfolding of history? May, the month of Mary: In the Catholic way, the month of May stirs up feelings of special affection for our mother Mary, the mother of Jesus. Recall how she suffered with Christ at the foot of the cross, but now she is with her Risen son. Her constant de-sire, as she expressed it at the wedding of Cana, is: “Do whatever Jesus tells you.” She dreams of lead-ing us to her son. Let’s love her and emulate her ex-ample of “Be it done to me according to your word” as we strive to be her son’s disciples and apostles. First Communion: Coming Saturday, May 7, 46 of our Faith Formation Children will be making their First Communion. They made their First Reconcilia-tion on March 12th. Karen Guglielmoni, our Faith formation Coordina-tor, and the catechists have been preparing these children for these sacraments. As we keep the chil-dren in our hearts, we realize that we are all centered on Christ in everything going on in our parish com-munity and that we are all being built into one body, one spirit.

Your Easter Support: I thank you for the support you give and your donations at Easter time. As you know well, Christmas and Easter collections are especially important for us to carry on our ministries in the parish. You have been kind and generous. God bless you! May the Risen Christ shine in your minds and hearts! Your friend and pastor, Father Charles Puthota

St. Veronica Parishioner selected as Malade for Lourdes Pilgrimage!

Each year the Western Association of the Order of Malta goes on a pilgrimage to Lourdes,

France. The Order usually receives about 150 applications each year from which about 50 malades are selected. This year our very own Ellen McAuliffe has been chosen to participate in the sojourn to Lourdes. We ask you keep Ellen and Michael in your prayers as they travel and look forward to a spiritual and caring experience.

Sacraments of Initiation received by the R.C.I.A. At the Easter Vigil Mass on Saturday April 23, 2011,

six of our fourteen R.C.I.A. members received the Sacraments of Initiation: Kayleigh Addison, Aaron Hill, David Hill, Melani Hill, Michael McWhinney and Jennell Perla. Evange-lina Pena received her first Holy Eucharist. They were sup-ported by the remainder of the R.C.I.A.: Christine Barajas, Daniella Barajas, Jennifer Baylor, Andrew Beaken, Veronica Ann Tobar, Alyssa Sirianni and Shanice Torres who have al-ready received Baptism and Holy Eucharist and will receive Confirmation from Archbishop Niederauer on June 12, 2011, on Pentecost Sunday at St. Mary's Cathedral.

Blessings and Congratulations to all!

Divine Mercy—May 1, 2001 The Feast of Divine Mercy is celebrated on the Octave of Easter (the Sunday after Easter Sunday). This feast was extended to the entire Catholic Church by Pope John Paul II on April 30, 2000, the day that he canonized Saint Faustina.

The message of The Divine Mercy is simple. It is that God loves us — all of us. And, he wants us to recognize that His mercy is greater than our sins, so that we will call upon Him with trust, receive His mercy, and let it flow through us to others. Thus, all will come to share His joy.
