Faxination 2016 represents a significant leap in Fenestraes flagship messaging and communications platform, as we continue to evolve the product to meet the needs of both our SMB and Enterprise customers. New and enhanced features will allow you to integrate Faxination into your business workflows, in ways you never thought possible.

Lets take a look at whats available in the new Faxination 2016, and how you can upgrade to the latest version.

The Faxination MFP Connector

In previous Faxination releases, the MFP Connector is used exclusively to scan physical documents and send them as faxes through Faxination. This is accomplished by a monitoring network folder where the MFP is configured to write the outgoing faxes.3

The Faxination MFP Connector (enhanced)

In addition to outbound faxing, the MFP Connector in Faxination 2016, can now monitor multiple network folders for the purposes of scanning physical documents to inbound applications, such as scanning to SharePoint and SAP.

The number of folders that you can monitor is limited only by the capabilities of the MFP device itself, and any inbound-capable Faxination application connector can be configured as the destination. No fax devices are involved.4

Similarly, our new Faxination Mailbox Connector can monitor the folders and subfolders of any Office 365 or on-premise Exchange mailbox. Inbox filtering rules can be used to move emails into the monitored folders. Faxination then extracts any file attachments, and delivers them inbound, to any supported application. Again, no fax devices are required.5

The Faxination REST Connector (new)

Also new for Faxination 2016 is the REST Connector. It provides an alternative programming interface for developers, using standard HTTP methods such as GET, PUT, and POST, with no custom APIs or DLLs required. This allows you to easily add fax and mobile messaging to your own custom applications.

Compared to the Faxination Web Service Connector and the Visual Studio IDE, REST programming is more lightweight, and easily scriptable with a simple text editor. Fully commented sample scripts are provided.

The Faxination HL7 Connector (new)

Developed specifically for the healthcare industry, the HL7 Connector uses the HL7 protocol, which is a worldwide standard for the secure exchange of medical information between healthcare systems. The HL7 Connector extends healthcare workflows to include fax and mobile messages, as well as other applications through our 360 CAPTURE technology.

Patient admissions and dismissals, lab reports, referrals, transfers, and pharmaceutical queries basically any information that enters a healthcare workflow as a fax or paper document, can be routed automatically and securely, expediting communication while reducing administrative workload.7

Weve added a new system monitoring feature that can send test messages through Faxination on a configured schedule. Alerts can be triggered when a test message notification is not received within a specified period of time, thus ensuring that the application connectors, the kernel, the queue, the transport devices, and the telephony system, are all functioning properly.8

System Management (enhanced)

The Faxination Management Portal now supports domain authentication, based on Active Directory security groups, and three levels of access from Global Administrator to View-Only.

Weve also introduced several new configuration tools in the portal, as part of our roadmap to make it the primary administrative interface for Faxination.

High-Availability Cluster Synchronization (new)

Another new feature of Faxination 2016 is high-availability cluster synchronization. In active/passive and load-balanced environments with multiple Faxination kernel nodes, this synchronization feature automatically ensures that each node has the same kernel configuration. This is a big time saver for your Faxination administrators, and eliminates the potential of human error through manual synchronization.

Trace Tool (enhanced)

Our Trace Tool has received several enhancements. For the first time, you can highlight and copy information directly from the Trace Tool buffer to the Windows clipboard. You can also assign processing threads to specific display colors, making them easier to find and follow in the trace data.

And finally, weve optimized our traces to reduce superfluous and redundant information, making the data both more concise and easier to read.11

Upgrading to Faxination 2016

Upgrading to Faxination 2016 couldnt be easier. If youre currently running Faxination or Fenestrae Communication Server 2013 or 2013 R2, simply run the Faxination 2016 installer, and select the upgrade option.12

However, if youre running Faxination or Fenestrae Communication Server 2010 or older, you will need to perform a clean install. If youre familiar with the installation process of our previous releases, the Faxination 2016 install is largely the same, although a 64-bit Windows Server 2008 or 2012 operating system is required. A typical clean install takes less than an hour, but can vary greatly, depending on the complexity of your deployment.

In either case, you will need a new Faxination 2016 contract key from your Fenestrae sales representative or reseller. All customers with an active maintenance and support contract as of June 1st 2016, are entitled to this upgrade at no additional charge.14
