Thank you FBCS

The month of October may be behind us now but the

memories created during this past month will live on

forever in my mind. I have never before witnessed a

congregation putting forth such effort to express its

love for their pastors. The people of this church deserve

a special word of thanks for all you have done to show

your appreciation for your pastors.

Throughout the entire month of October, the members

of FBC Springfield went all-out to express your love

for your pastors and their families. The various Sunday

School classes have taken us out to eat every Sunday

and sometimes on week nights as well. Many of you

have given us encouraging cards and letters and you

have showered us with special care and concern. You

have given us a great number of different gifts, includ-

ing tremendous monetary blessings.

You declared this past Sunday as “Pastor Appreciation

Day” and made it the grand finale. We were given the

royal treatment as pastors. We had no responsibilities

to do anything but to sit, relax, and enjoy the day while

you lavished us with love. Members of the church gave

personal testimonies of how God has used us men as

leaders to minister to them and help them in their

Christian maturity. Brother Reland Morgan, a retired

minister who recently joined our church, challenged us

and the congregation with an inspiring message. After-

ward, we enjoyed a great feast in the social hall, which

was prepared by the members and consisted of all our

favorite dishes and desserts (including two of my favor-

ites, chicken and dumplings and home-made carrot

cake).

Special thanks to Colleen Webb and all those who as-

sisted her on the Pastoral Support Committee to make

this past month so special for the pastors. You per-

formed your task in a very professional and Christ-like

manner. It was well planned, organized and carried out.

This church has demonstrated true love for its pastors

and I am extremely thankful for you and all your acts

of care and kindness. You are a great church, First Bap-

tist Springfield, and you have proven it by your love for

one another, and especially for your pastors. May God

richly bless you for your love for Him and for your pas-

tors. I love you with all my heart.

After 10:45 service.

Let me start off by thanking everyone for a great Pastor

Appreciation month. We have celebrated all month and a

huge thank you to our church family. I have enough Pepsi

Max for the next year… thanks again for all you do for our

family.

Wednesday night was great fun as we looked at LORD

OF THE RINGS. I will continue our study on

Wednesday nights.

The Dark Lord - The Lord of The Ring = Ephesians 6:10-6:18 (last week) The Fellowship of the Ring = Matthew 16:13-16:19 Who Is The Lord Of The Ring = Matthew 4:1-4:11 Return Of The King = Revelation 19:4-19:16 Our DNOW is fast approaching and our ministry is in need

of food and snacks for the weekend. If you could help out it

would be greatly appreciated. Our host homes will feed

them breakfast and snacks all weekend long. If you could

bring breakfast and snack items and drop them off at the

church no later than Thursday November 13th. Anything

you are willing to give will be much appreciated thanks in

advance.

Our DNOW team is in place and you can go online and

look at the study, sign up and get general information.

Shannon is our new student intern and is doing a great job

keeping information out there. She can also sign you up

manually.

Boston Butt sale is the first Saturday in December. Please

see one of our students for tickets!!! You can purchase them

in the foyer.

When will we figure this out?

It has not been too long ago that I wrote about a discovery in

my preparation for a message involving Noah and the flood. The

discovery was of Noah’s obedience. It is stated three times (6:22;

7:5, 9), “He did everything that God had commanded him.” Gen

6:22.

What would happen if we just did what we were told? Children

on my bus would not be in trouble. People can’t be hit in the eye if

hands stay in laps. It just doesn’t happen. You are not a liar if you

don’t lie. You are not a thief if you don’t steal. When will we figure

that out?

You won’t get a ticket if you don’t speed. It seems so simple

and common sense yet…Just this week we saw a media frenzy

where following directions from authorities early on would have de-

energized a situation and the consequences. But no, we can’t do

that. We haven’t figured that out yet.

Yes, this is a box I’m on. Recently the former chief Supreme

Court justice for Georgia spoke in Savannah. In her interview on a

local station she said if a child completes high school, marries be-

fore having babies there is a 95% likely hood that they will never

experience poverty. How about that it is not just a moral issue but

one of economics. Simple it seems yet how many do just that?

When will we figure that out?

In faith circles we have the same problems. Sure we want the

blessings of God, the wisdom of God and the presence of God but

we fail to be grateful, we fail to read His word and everything else is

more important than spending time with him. Then we wonder why

our religion seems so shallow? We didn’t follow God’s direction

before but we want him to clean up the mess now! The history of

Israel is one where they did as God commanded and then they did

not as God commanded. They were always surprised at what hap-

pened to them when they disobeyed God. Just like us when we do

wrong. It happens when we skip some of the steps in the directions

as we are assembling an item. We end up with twice the work taking

it apart and reassembling it correctly.

It is so funny when I realize I could have prevented the problem

I have by doing what I knew to do earlier. I chose not to for what

seemed like very good reasons yet they were all excuses to do what

I wanted and not what needed to be done. When will I figure this

out? Paul writes of the nature of this struggle. 21 So I discover this principle: When I want to do

what is good, evil is with me. 22 For in my inner self I

joyfully agree with God’s law. 23 But I see a different

law in the parts of my body, waging war against the

law of my mind and taking me prisoner to the law of

sin in the parts of my body. 24 What a wretched man I

am! Who will rescue me from this dying body? 25 I

thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord! Romans

7:21-25 HCSB Paul always makes me feel better because he always points me

to Jesus. Jesus did everything God commanded him. I should too.
