There are many types of substances added to the commercially prepared foods. However, all these foods are not really bad. There are some additives added to foods to stop them from getting rancid so that they can be helpful in keeping us in perfect health.

One such example is aflatoxin, which is a toxin that is derived from a typical mould. It starts growing on stored foods in humid and hot countries, typically visible on peanuts.

Aflatoxin causes liver cancer; therefore, anything that can stop the mould from getting inside the nuts will be helpful in preventing cancer.

Today, most additives aren’t thought to cause or affect risks of cancer. Flavors, colors, sweeteners and other additives are researched and investigated constantly to eliminate all risks of cancer.

Sometimes, however, there is a fear about some particular additive that could become a threat to health.

Cancer specialists, however, point out sugar and related additives to be potentially detrimental for health. Even a few years back it was believed that saccharin was a carcinogen.

Research found that when used to feed rats in large quantities, saccharin increased the rate of cancer in rates. Man is unlikely to consume large amount of saccharin for any reason and therefore it is less likely to cause cancer in men and women.
