Goals:

Use tables, graphs and equations to represent relationships

Understand linear, quadratic, & exponential relationships

Directions:

Go to Start Button. Select All Programs, InspireData & Databases. Open the Mathematics Folder.

Read the Description of the 8 Different Tables. Click on Each Tab to Change Tables. What Type of Algebraic Relationships is being Modeled? Linear, Quadratic, Exponential or None.

Arrange Students into Small Groups.

Click on PlotView Icon (Looks like Dice) in the Upper Left Hand Corner.

Directions:

Click on AxisPlot Icon (4th from the Left on the Bottom Toolbar)

Click on Plot Options Icon in the Bottom Left Hand Corner above the Toolbar

Choose Instant Plot. An Animated Time Series Plot of the Data Will Appear

Click on the Notes Icon in the bottom right hand corner

What is the algebraic relationship?

Click on the Slide Sorter Icon on the Toolbar in the Bottom Right Hand Corner and then the Capture Slide Icon to the Right of the Slide Sorter Icon.

Create Time Series Plots for all 8 Tables. Save changes by clicking on the Slide Options Icon (Downward Triangle on Each Slide). Select Update Slide

Click on the TableView Icon in the Upper Left Hand Corner

Compare Results by Using Tables & Calculator to Confirm Type of Algebraic Relationship

Are the Previously Predicted Relationships from the Graphs Confirmed from the Tables?

Click the Slide Options Button & Select Update Slide. Repeat for each table.

INSTRUCTIONS:

• Switch to Plot View clicking on the icon in the upper left hand corner that looks like dice

• Create a Venn Plot by clicking on the 2nd icon from the left on the bottom toolbar

•Click on the field label inside the loop and choose highest temperature

• Click on the equals sign and choose the less than sign.

•Click on the ? and type in 100 (degrees)

INSTRUCTIONS

•Click on the label button to see the cities. Cities with the highest temperature on record less than 100 degrees are inside the loop.

• Click the Add Venn Loop button in the bottom left hand corner to complete the plot.

•Repeat the steps to add more loops.

• Click on the Axis Plot Button

• On the Y Axis Label choose Elevation (ft.)

• On the X Axis Label choose Mean Annual Snowfall (in.)

• Change the range of an axis by clicking on the maximum value and enter a new end point.

• Click reset to undo any changes

• Move the cursor over the planet icon next to each location and double click to learn more about its geography and climate
