Appendix AOUTDOOR RESET Settings and Troubleshooting

Outdoor reset control settings Outdoorresetcanimprovecomfortandoperatingefficiency,

makingthebestpossibleuseoftheUltraboiler’scondens-ingability.ImproperlysettingoutdoorresetsettingsintheU-Control can result in insufficientheat.FactorydefaultsettingsfortheU-Controlwillworkinmanyinstances,butnotall.Usetheinformationbelowtosetthecontroltomeettheinstallationconditions.

1. Outdoor reset tries to match heat input to the system heat loss.Asoutdoortemperaturerises(heatlossdecreases),theU-Controlreducesthesupplywatertemperaturetothesystem,thusreducingheatinput.

2. Setupdesiredsettingsforeachoftheprioritiesused

3. MIN and MAX SUPPLY temperatures—Foranexplanationof the target temperaturesandassociatedoutdoor temperatures, seeFigure1.

e. Note that the reset lines are curved. The shape of this curve ismatched(characterized)totheresponseofthesystemtypechosen.Thisensuresthemosteffectiveresetoperation.

4. Modulate on differential—Thetemperaturemustdropthismanydegreesbelowtargettemperaturefortheboilertocomeon.

5. Modulate off differential —While the boiler is firing, as thetemperature increasesabovethetarget temperature, theboilerfiringrateisreduced.Atthismanydegreesabovethetargettemperature,theboilershutsdown.

6. a. Thefactorydefaultsettingsforoutdoorresetarenotagoodmatchtothesystemneeds.

b. Thebaseboardmayhavebeensizedforhigherwatersupplytem-perature. Older systems were often sized for baseboard supplytemperatureof210°F(averagewatertemperatureof200°F).

b. MAX SUPPLY—Setto190°F.(Exception:Forradiantsystems,settodesignoperatingtemperatureatmaximumheatload.)

c. MIN OD RESET—Setto70°F(factorydefault).

d. MIN SUPPLY — Set to 70°F (increase value to 130°F if theproblempersists).
