From human factors and sustainability to process improvement and quality patient safety – there is a wealth of knowledge to be gained from #HSPI2020. Establish an SHS Corporate Partnership and continue reaping invaluable insights into the industry and benefiting your organization: Save more lives and save more money.

SHS Corporate Partners receive 15-50% off individual membership dues.

The small number of engineers in a given healthcare system can quickly lose their sense of professional identity. In fact, many healthcare organizations do not realize the significant difference between a highly trained engineer and someone who has taken basic performance improvement training. MaineHealth as a system has made an investment in recruiting multiple engineers; our membership in IISE enables these valuable team members to feel confident in their professional identity, access opportunities to grow and refine their skills, and network with colleagues across the country. In this way each of our engineers is a gateway for our caregivers to a rich knowledge base and extremely skilled community.”

He recently published the book, Why We Revolt – A Patient Revolution for Careful and Kind Care.

ALEX KNIGHT, BSC, MBA, CENGFounding Partner, QFIFriday, Feb. 28 | 8-9 a.m. | Harborside Ballroom

Alex Knight, BSc, MBA, CEng, is a founding partner of QFI and inventor of Theory of Constraints-based solutions. For nearly three decades he has worked around the world alongside many leaders in healthcare, social care, for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. His consulting, speaking, lecturing and coaching work has shown him first-hand the joys and struggles people face in their endeavors to improve services and businesses.

For the last 15 years, Alex has been building, testing and verifying a Theory of Constraints solution for healthcare. The solution has been tested in acute, community and mental health settings in the UK, the Netherlands, Canada, the U.S. and Australia. On completion, Alex and the team focused on building the education, implementation and software elements to ensure the solution’s robustness, sustainability and scalability.

He previously served as Managing Director of Ashridge Consulting Ltd. and Chief Executive of Goldratt Consulting. He was mentored for three decades by Eliyahu M. Goldratt, inventor of the Theory of Constraints and author of The Goal. Knight followed in his mentor’s footsteps with the novel Pride and Joy, which reviewers have dubbed The Goal for the healthcare industry.

Thursday, Feb. 27 from 1:10 - 2:10 p.m. in the Regency Ballroom

In a series of brief and personal essays, Why We Revolt describes what is wrong with industrial healthcare, how it has corrupted its mission, and how it has stopped caring. Dr. Montori rescues the language of patient care to propose a revolution of compassion and solidarity, of unhurried conversations, and of careful and kind care.

Following his keynote address, Dr. Montori will be signing his book, Why We

Revolt: A Patient Revolution for Careful and Kind Care, in the Exhibit Hall.
