SUNDAY APRIL 26 – BROOKSNO NAME GROUP (8:00PM)**JUST A REMINDER THAT ALL OF THE COORDINATORS REPORTS ARE AVAILABLE IN THEIRENTIRETY IN THE HOPE MINUTES. ALSO ONLINE AT CHINOOKNA.ORGHOPE BUSINESSMotion: Add the new IP, “An Introduction To NA Meetings #29”, to the literature that HOPE providesto facilities that H&I services.Intent: This IP gives a newcomer (or someone who hasn’t yet attended an NA meeting) an idea what toexpect to see at a recovery meeting.

Discussion: Around the table and consensus was to provide this pamphlet to the facilities.

Motion: To provide 30 Little White Books to Lethbridge to be used for the Public Relations events.

Intent -To have literature available to the local Lethbridge Fellowship for their Public Relationships

events.

Discussion: Around the table and approved by consensusMotion: To adopt P.R. Co-ordinator proposal to move website host as outlined in February P.R. report.Intent: To have a new, secure, less expensive site host. To reduce/eliminate the potential “hacking” ofour site.Proposal to move CHINOOKNA.ORG to Canadian Web Hosting ServiceFebruary 2015 - Jeff Lamb - Public Relations Coordinator

As directed by the H.O.P.E. committee in January 2015, I have been researching the various options formoving our current web hosting to a resource which offers better email solutions (reduced spam).

The investigation took a more important aspect when it was announced that the CANA site would soonbe changing the backend code to secure it from hackers. This change in the code will purportedly breakthe code on the various areas who use it, websites.I have been in contact with the Vancouver Area Web servant, who has just recently redesigned theirsite. The Vancouver area is willing to give us a copy of their base template to use for our design at nocost. The site has a modern look/feel which includes a storefront for literature sales, if we find that is adesire for our literature committeeI am proposing that we establish a new site, using the VASC template at Canadian Web Hosting and pay for

3 years in advance. Paying for 2 years (without contract) allows a reduced rate of $3.95 / month. Their webmail spam filters are much better that our current web host and their webmail is a much more moderninterface. They also have the ability to integrate the email directly into your own email client (Outlook,MacMail, Thunderbird, etc.), if that is something you wish to do.

Discussion: Around the table and was approved by consensus.

Motion: H&I will cease all Ladies Remand meetings until a Panel Leader has been selected at HOPE unless2 members are able to attend on Feb. 18, 2015.Intent - All Panel Leaders need to be accountable to the H&I Coordinator.Discussion: Around the table and approved by consensus

Motion: Allow Outreach to request extra funds monthly when required.Intent - To allow Outreach to take 2 vehicles on some trips which will allow more people to receive thebenefit of service.Discussion: HOPE Chair ruled out of order as any sub-committee can request extra funds at any time.

In closing, I would like to thank all our members for their continued support and hard work. We had anothergood meeting and handled some delicate matters. I would also like to take the opportunity to present myname as a nominee for another term as the Hope chair. The Committee has asked if I would like to run againand I have agreed. I look forward to speaking to that nomination today.YIS Wayne B

Good afternoon everyone, I am an addict called Wayne. Here is the Hope report to the groups.

It is a little longer than usual as there have been two Hope meetings since the ASC met in

November. I would also like to outline our proposed budget for the year ahead.

GENERAL HOPE UPDATE

-Bill K was elected as H&I coordinator

-Joanne S was elected as Aventa panel leader

-Barb S has been nominated for Hope treasurer. I will speak to her nomination now. This

election will go back to the groups and there will be a vote at the next ASC.

-William S has been nominated for Hope Literature coordinator. I will speak to this nomination

now. This election will take place at the next Hope meeting on Feb 14th. All groups are

encouraged to either show up at Hope to vote or vote by email proxy to myself at

[email protected]

-positions that are open: newsletter coordinator, Renfrew panel leader, Sunrise panel leader,

David Lander panel leader, Ladies remand panel leader, Men's remand panel leader, web

servant.

-Hope chair position is also coming open. I held a nomination from the Hope committee in

January. Nominees should be presented at the February ASC and then an election would take

place at the March ASC.

-Hope resource pool list has been updated by the secretary as well as the Hope contact list. If

you do not wish to receive minutes and other Hope announcements please email the secretary

to let him know.

-contrary to all the hype, Hope did not change it's name. We are still called the Hope

committee.

-going forward, PI (public information) will now be referred to as PR (public relations)

-Literature was approximately $47.50 with orders going to David Lander Centre and Sunrise.

-Hope bank balance is $363.13

-next Hope meeting is February 14 at 11 am. There will be a Hope workshop at 10 am.

Hospitals and Institutions

-Bill K has assumed responsibility for this service activity. He steps in at a difficult time. Both

Dan Y and Cheryle S are finishing multiple terms as panel leaders at the end of this month. Bill

has indicated that he would like to meet with each facility to establish relationships. It is my

opinion that H&I is in need of support from the fellowship at this time. Bill has stressed that he

does not wish to start any new projects until the ones we already serve have sufficient

personnel running them. Like all of our service commitments, H&I is people powered and right

now we need people to step up and make a commitment.

Public Relations

-Jeff L is the PR coordinator

-PR was contacted by AHS to update/confirm our contact info for the access mental health

document.

-the phone has switched from Rogers to Bell. The medicine hat number has been dropped and

areas outside of the Calgary calling area will use the regional toll free number. There was a

$150 deposit on the previous account that will be returned to us by Rogers. Jeff L has donated

an iPhone 4 to replace the old blackberry.

-the phone line received 132 calls over the reporting period. 90% of the calls were answered.

Most were for meeting info and addicts just wanting to talk.

-840 meeting lists were printed over the reporting period at a cost of $126.84. One group

requested meeting lists which Dave R printed off manually.

-the Web continues to be updated by Jeff L

OUTREACH

-Fred M is the Outreach coordinator

-Outreach did 4 trips in the last reporting period. 2 addicts went to Oyen. They were well

received. Drumheller was the next stop. 21 members attended, 7 were from Outreach. Cost

was $28. Outreach was down to Lethbridge next. 14 addicts were present with 4 of them being

from Outreach. Cost of this trip was $42. Lastly, Outreach was in Canmore. Cost of this trip was

$21. All the groups were happy to see us and requested that we continue to show up and

support. Outreach is looking to hold fellowship days again this year in both Lethbridge and

Medicine Hat to continue building strong relationships with outlying areas.

BUSINESS

a)Motion: That the HOPE committee literature have a storage area at the house.

Intent: To have a place where people can pick up literature if I am not available. Discussion

around the table and consensus was that William store in House and be the single point of

accountability for the HOPE Literature

b)Motion: To purchase - retractable P.R. Banners (Financial in December 2014 P.R. report)

Intent - To provide a professional display to be used at Public Relations events supported

within the Chinook Area Discussion: Jeff spoke to the motion about costs and descriptions of

the banners. Discussion around the table. Consensus was to purchase 2 stands and Jeff was

going to provide graphic. Cost of the stands is $190 +taxes and shipping.

c)Motion: To have H&I do a presentation at the Salvation Army Centre of Hope ARP Program,

once a month on Tuesday or Wednesday evening Men only.

Intent: To provide an information session to the men taking part in the Addictions Recovery

Program about the Chinook Area of NA and our meetings. Discussion around the table and

consensus was that it is a great idea but to wait until we elect an H&I Coordinator and they

have discussion amongst their committee to make sure they are able to accommodate the

facility. Decision was to table to next meeting.

d)Motion: Direct the PR Coordinator/Web Coordinator to investigate a new website

hosting arrangement that could eliminate as much as possible, spam emails that

land in Chinook Area trusted servants’ Area email accounts.

Page 13: Feb 28, 2015chinookna.org/wp-content/uploads/minutes/area/2015/2015... · 2015-04-27 · 246 – 2015-02-28 Moved By: Stepping into Recovery Seconded By: Welcome Home Motion: To remove

Intent - To reduce the amount of spam emails in Chinook Area trusted servants’

email inboxes. Discussion: Around the table and approved

e)Motion: Add the new IP, “An Introduction To NA Meetings #29”, to the literature

that HOPE provides to facilities that H&I services.

Intent: This IP gives a newcomer (or someone who hasn’t yet attended an NA

meeting) an idea what to expect to see at a recovery meeting. Discussion: Around

the table, not everyone has had a chance to read it so motion was tabled until next

meeting when everyone has had a chance to read it.

f) Wayne B. discussed that there is no admin for HOPE and was wondering how as

Chair he is just the facilitator and that he sees housekeeping motions that might be

needed and how to bring forward those proposals. Discussion around the table.

HOPE table was in agreement that it doesn’t need an Admin meeting and through

communicating with members at the table that if the issue is important enough

someone at the table will make a motion during the HOPE meeting.

g) Ron S. asked everyone to try to the best of their ability to promote HOPE.

Challenged everyone at the table to bring an addict to the next HOPE meeting to

take the HOPE workshop.

I feel we have had several good meetings in a row now. The table is filling up and we had 18 members

present at the last meeting with close to 175 years of clean time present. It feels good to be a part of

this service structure for the Chinook area of Narcotics Anonymous.

We are asking for a slight increase in our budget this year. Last year we were approved for $425 per

month with a $125 literature accrual limit which was paid directly by the area. We are seeking the same

arrangement with our literature and a $100 increase in our cash flow. The reason for this is largely due

to an anticipation of increased activity with Public Relations. The trusted servants over there are doing

excellent work and as we continue to grow and work together I am sure some wonderful new projects

will emerge. I would also like to remind the groups that Hope has been very conscientious around NA

funds. We will absolutely not take more than we need. Several times in the last budget year Hope did

not ask for funds as they were not needed. This would continue to be our practice as we move through

the upcoming year. This is simply a forecast and we do not treat our budget as if we have to spend the

money. We are committed to carrying the message to the addict who still suffers as well information to

the professional sector and we will be financially responsible in doing so. The allotment would be broken

down as follows:

H&I - $100 (mostly travel money to Lander)

Outreach - $100 (travel money)

PR - $325--$15 website, $20 events, $80 phone, $160 meeting lists, $25 yellow pages, $15 travel, $10

admin.

Thank you for allowing me to be of service, Wayne B

6. ReportsHope Chair - Wayne B.

Hello everyone, I'm an addict called Wayne. Not much to report. I presented Barb and William's

nominations at the Jan ASC. I also presented our budget to the groups for their approval. I did

not however submit a motion in time for the budget to make new business. I guess it will go

back to the groups at the next ASC in Feb.

I would also like to encourage Hope members not to engage in any kind of inflammatory email

or text chains. I have seen these types of communication spiral out of control too many times. If

anyone is questioning how or what we do here please invite them to the meeting or pass on my

contact information. Perhaps even invite a call to the committee during our meeting time if at-

tendance at the meeting were impossible. Thanks for all your hard work to date and let's have a

HOPE H&I COORIDINATOR REPORT

February 14, 2015Good morning fellow addicts. .I would like to start off my report by thanking all the members of this great area of NA that havestepped up and helped me over this past month. I was out of the country for 2 weeks and mem-bers of the HOPE committee stepped in to ensure that we still got a message of hope to our manyvenues. The following is an update on our venues. If you would like to see something differentin my reports please let me know.

Aventa: As of last month Joanne N has been leading panels into this venue. We currently per-form a panel presentation every second Wed at 6:30 with an average attendance of 25 clients(mandatory attendance). No specific issues to report today.

David Lander Center (DLC): Dan Y finished his term and I have been filling in as panel leader.Jeff L (PR) and I met Dan at his last meeting and had a meeting with the facility liaison. Theyare quite happy with our efforts and wanted to ensure we keep in contact with them, especially ifwe can’t make the commitment. Dan did a great job on making the meetings. We attend thisfacility every second Tuesday at 8 PM and probably average 15 to 20 clients. The clients canchoose between NA and AA so the numbers do fluctuate.During Dan’s tenure, he was selling all sorts of literature to the clients. Steve appreciated thisservice so I am going to try and keep it up but I will probably limit sales to Basic Texts.

Renfrew Detox (Renfrew): Addison and I share the panel leading at Renfrew. We attend this fa-cility every Friday evening at 7 PM with an average attendance of 20 clients. Attendance ismandatory. The presentations are going well and we seem to get 4 or so clients approach afterthe meeting. We delivered a full suite of literature there. The clients will pick up literature afterthe presentation but the pamphlets that are in the racks are literally untouched. We will continueto monitor literature.

The Calgary Ladies Remand Center (Ladies Remand): We have been going here on the thirdWed of the month (Feb 18th is next visit). Hayley F is willing to keep this commitment going but

Page 18: Feb 28, 2015chinookna.org/wp-content/uploads/minutes/area/2015/2015... · 2015-04-27 · 246 – 2015-02-28 Moved By: Stepping into Recovery Seconded By: Welcome Home Motion: To remove

like Cheryl she will be doing it on her own. In speaking with Haley is unable to attend this meet-ing to be elected. I don’t know Haley but I am going to meet her and have her come to Landerswith me just to get to know her a little. Historically they have ran this as a meeting instead ofpresentation. Clearance is required. Anyone applying for clearance must have a clean record forat least 5 years.

Sunrise Native Treatment Center (Sunrise)Sunrise presentations have been going well and both the staff and the clients appreciate ourmeetings. We attend this venue every second Thursday at 8 PM with an average attendance of22 clients. Attendance is mandatory and the clients are very attentive.

Calgary Young Offenders (CYOC): Wayne B has been handling this. Meetings are by request.Clearance is required.

The Calgary Remand Center (Men’s Remand): Not serving this facility at this time.

Old business:I still have not met with representatives from The Centre of Hope. I have Betty’s contact infor-mation so I will try and coordinate with Jeff L and set up a meeting. We do not have the re-sources to make any commitments to the facility but I need to meet with them.In addition to the above facility I still need to reach out to Chester Wazinski (sp?) to get an up-date on Remand and how we can work to help them.

New Business:I would like to propose that we standardize the formats and forms at our H&I venues where wedo panel presentations. I will take on the task of writing the format up and presenting it to thistable.

Financial: Monthly budget is $250.00 per month. Jan costs = $157.20 for literature (Ren-frew $82.20 & Aventa = $75.00) + $25.00 for travel to DLC. Have 1 BT on hand at DLC forsale (Sold 1st meeting in Feb).

That is all I have for now. Again please let me know if you would like to see changes or addi-tions to my report.

I contacted the Deaf Alberta organization and was pleased to hear they had a desire to receive SignLanguage DVD copies of the Little White Book. I delivered 2 copies of the DVDs to their office on January28. I also contacted the Alberta Deaf Society but have yet to receive a response.

I contacted the web Program Assistant for Alberta Family Wellness to have our information updated.

We were contacted by several students from Addiction courses around the city asking about theprogram and wishing to attend NA Meetings. Information was provided and an invitation for a PublicRelations presentation was offered.

I updated all the meeting list information on the CANA website in January.I contacted NAWS to become the primary contact for the chinook area to be able to update our meetinginformation in their database which is directly linked to the mobile meeting APP.UPDATE: I have just begun the NAWS updates this week after obtaining access.

I am very happy to present the banner. This one, along with a few P.R. posters, will be sent to Lethbridgewith the outreach team in time for their Project Homeless Connect event. I was given a check for$250.00 to pay for the 2 banners. The total was $235.00 including tax and shipping.

Outreach Coordinator - Fred M.

Good morning,My name is Fred and I am an addict. We did 3 trips in this period.First off was Medicine Hat Friday Jan. 23rd, Lifesavers. This was attended by 15 members and 3 fromoutreach. Their only request was continued support with ongoing outreach attendance, and that we doagain bring the fellowship days event. Seed has also been planted that this community and Leth-bridge support one another for this event. cost for this trip was $59.00.Secondly we went to Brooks Sunday Feb. 1, No Name. This was attended 6 from group and 3 from out-reach. They very appreciated the support, and asked that outreach continue to attend and support. Cost forthis trip was $38.00.Lastly we went to Canmore, Pirates of thee Valley, Friday Feb 6th. This was attended by 11 from thegroup and 6 from outreach. We were to attend and help a member celebrate a birthday. A good time washad by all and as usual they are always overjoyed to see outreach return. Cost for this trip was $21.00 andan additional $21.00 in service.Outreach will be seeking speakers for the fellowship days event in Medicine Hat as well as people willingto facilitate workshops. Please bring forth any names or suggestions to either myself or David C.

Outreach would like to suggest either having funds reinstated to the previous amount of $170.00 a monthor to be able to request additional funds when we go over budget. The reason for this is quite simply thatoutreach is trying to promote service much harder and there are time when we could easily send 2 vehi-cles on a trip. the value of this is immeasurable, and I say that from my own personal experience in ser-vice. It builds strong fellowship both locally and in between the communities and members. This alsoprovides for what is essential for new comers in getting them involved with those of time. We talk recov-ery on the way out. we talk recovery on the way back. We attend the meeting. And very often we also gofor fellowship after the meeting. This also allows for newcomers to really open up about themselves inwhat is generally felt to be a very safe environment. Also form the community we attend it gives themfresh people to share their experience .strength and hope with. This is a win win situation for everyone, asit build thee ties that bind us together. I would hope that in my absence that the service body sees thevalue in this proposal.

The following is a list of upcoming outreach trips.

Proposal to move CHINOOKNA.ORG to Canadian Web Hosting Service

February 2015 - Jeff Lamb - Public Relations Coordinator

As directed by the H.O.P.E. committee in January 2015, I have been researching the various options for

moving our current web hosting to a resource which offers better email solutions (reduced spam).

The investigation took a more important aspect when it was announced that the CANA site would soon

be changing the backend code to secure it from hackers. This change in the code will purportedly break

the code on the various areas who use it, websites.

I have been in contact with the Vancouver Area Web servant, who has just recently redesigned their

site. The Vancouver area is willing to give us a copy of their base template to use for our design at no

cost. The site has a modern look/feel which includes a storefront for literature sales, if we find that is a

desire for our literature committee

I am proposing that we establish a new site, using the VASC template at Canadian Web Hosting and pay

for 3 years in advance. Paying for 2 years (without contract) allows a reduced rate of $3.95 / month.

Their web mail spam filters are much better that our current web host and their webmail is a much

more modern interface. They also have the ability to integrate the email directly into your own email

client (Outlook, MacMail, Thunderbird, etc.), if that is something you wish to do.

On a side-note. Our email addresses will most likely have to change to something more modern (i.e.

CHINOOK AREA OF N.A. TREASURER’S REPORT – FEBRUARY 28, 2015

Submitted by: Dave R.

Greetings,

I’ve put together the pro forma 2015 ASC Budget and updated the Contributions Summary and Bank

Statement.

What is interesting and of note?

Expected total revenues for the year are about $13,000 inclusive of $9,000 of 7th contributions from Groups

and about $1600 in Rent returned from “The House”. This does not include any potential profit from an Area

convention nor from the Literature Depot. This does include, however, the $2,928 returned to the main

account from our prior year’s Service Office savings.

A $3,400 contribution to the AL-SASK region is available and I’ll write a cheque today for that amount such

that our RCM can bring it up for next month’s Regional Meeting.

Okay then here is the projected Budget for 2015….

Area Bank Account: The balance at the end of January was $2,000. The current balance, not including any new

expenses or incoming 7th Contributions from Groups is $2,246. Here are the bank records:

Summary of our allocations – these are Running Totals:

HOPe Committee: $425 – This is the monthly cash amount allocated for HOPe. There will

likely be a cheque for this amount written today, this is for February, as

well as an allocation made for the same amount for next month, March. I

also have an accrual for HOPe Literature in the amount of $270.

“The House” Maintenance: $300 - I created an allocation for potential maintenance expenses related

to operating the location at 513 – 13th Ave SW. This location is looking to

be cashflow positive, so I expect this allocation to reduce to nil over the

next six months.

“AL_SASK Region: $3,411.47 – The next AL-SASK meeting is in March. A cheque for this

amount will be given to our RCM to take to that meeting today;

As usual, if you or your Group would like a detailed explanation of Area finances, don’t hesitate to contact me

for further discussion. Okay that’s it for this month.

Regards,

Dave R.

“Welcome Home” – GSR Report Jan 24, 2015

I am Garth S., addict and GSR for the recently formed “Welcome Home” grouplocated in Cochrane. We meet on Wednesday nights, 7:30 in the provincial building onmain street second floor kitchen area.

The meeting is open with no fixed format at this time. We have been a dailymeditation discussion group but are still working out the kinks. Our focus has been onkeeping the doors open but all the trappings of an established group are taking place.

To date we have 7 members signed to the group but our largest meeting has been6 people. A 1year birthday was recently celebrated and Donna K will be celebrating 24years on February 18th.

Supplies are good and finances in order. We have a donation to area at this time.

Conscious Contact Report

I have been away from my role as GSR for about 6 months and I am glad to say am now resumingmy role as GSR. Conscious Contact has not made a donation to the ASC this year but plan to do soin the future. We had three birthdays in February and all three have service positions within ourgroup. Our attendance has been steady at about 16 people per meeting. We are doing well. Wehave had two people in February fill in as alt positions in service. We also will be looking at ourmembers list in March and making sure it is accurate. We did give a donation to world, I think itwas $50 but I do not remember, I will give a more accurate number in my next GSR report. Thankyou for your time. In solidarity, Ravenmoon S. (GSR for Conscious Contact)
