City of Edmonton is becoming a Cityof Hope
All children can succeed, NO EXCEPTIONS! This truthcan become a reality through caring, supportive, andgenuine relationships with children and youth. Furtherencouraging children and youth to clearly describe and
create their future through their present actions are key.
By working to inspire Edmontonians to adopt this cultureof hope through targeted Hopeologyworkshops, thetraining of internal staff and the implementation of Kidsat Hope principles within City of Edmontons Community
Recreation Program Team, we are actively workingtowards becoming a City of Hope.
To date the City of Edmonton has trained over 670individuals in Hopeology workshops impacting over1,200 children and forming many new partnershipswith community organizations across the city.Top 3 ways YOU can inspire HOPE in yourcommunity:
1) Commit to forming genuine and caringrelationships with children and youth in YOURcommunity
2) Contact the City of Edmonton to hold aHopelogy workshop in YOUR community

Preserving Edmonton's Ash Trees
After a thorough tree health assessment staff foundapproximately 1700 ash trees in a number of areas
across Edmonton infected with Lilac-ash borers. As apreventative measure, staff will be treating these treeswith either pesticides or biological control agents in the
spring. This will help to contain the pest and preservethe Citys urban forest. The trees in poor condition thatcannot be saved will be removed; we anticipate
removing approximately 200 trees across the city.Removals will begin December 10, with replantingefforts starting as early as 2013.
City staff continues to research the best managementpractices to improve the growing conditions of the trees
and to control this pest.
The City of Edmonton is committed to having a diverse, healthy and sustainable urban forest that enhances thebeauty of Edmonton.
For any questions or concerns regarding these removalsor treatment, please contact Forestry at 780-496-4958.For more information, please visit:http://www.edmonton.ca/for_residents/pest_management/ash-borer.aspx
