Respected Seniors and dear friends,

As IAP Mumbai embarks upon another year in its history and a new team takes over, it is my pleasant duty to share with you, for your permission and suggestions, the theme that we intend to work towards this year.

Thanks to its visionary, dedicated and enterprising members, the Mumbai branch of The Indian Academy of Pediatrics has always been a front runner in the country. Our founding members started with merely an idea, but they believed in it and it came to be! Many years down, embellished with the humongous, seless love and nurtured by the toil and perseverance of its honorable ofce bearers and members, IAP Mumbai continues to be a trendsetter and a beacon for sincerity, dedication and transparency.

As we assume ofce, it is with a strong sense of responsibility and accountability to continue this tradition that our team has dedicated this year to upholding our hoary traditions; and moving ahead to emcompass, besides the pediatric fraternity, the entire community- the children, their families, their development, their nutrition, their education and the environment! IAP Mumbai will endeavour to take its services to society at large and look to be a facilitator in drawing its members closer to the community- if possible, beyond the connes of clinics and clinical medicine. Our city Mumbai has been served well by its regiment of pediatricians to their best ability. It may further help if our honourable members be made aware of how they can continue to offer their yeoman clinical services-yet contribute their might to make a difference to the status that children enjoy! This need not be in the form of a large campaign; but rather a small awareness that a mere word from our honorable members makes a huge difference to the attitude of every family.

Some of the ways IAP Mumbai is attempting this difcult task of outreach is by conducting programs in schools for parents- to interact and empower parents with the ability to deal with common medical illnesses. Our beloved teacher, Dr Y K Amdekar has been requested to offer his wisdom as an clinician and counselor to engage in this dialogue with parents. Those of our members who would be keen to enlist in this endeavor are welcome.

A module is being prepared for assisting Pediatricians to enable them go beyond the usual clinical practice- to encourage prevention of illness and promotion of good health. Likewise, with all its hustle and bustle, our beloved city still shudders with monsoon illnesses- the coverage of ORS is still an unbelievable 50% even in this metropolis! The monsoon months will be the focus of a public health campaign and with the wholehearted participation of our members, we hope to make a difference in the city this year! It may pour, but hopefully will not punch!

The Research & Academic Council of MBIAP, set up by our erstwhile team will hope to expand its reach this year. Post graduates and their teachers are requested to avail of this opportunity.

Two National Conferences will be the highlight of the academics. EMBICON has been clubbed with the National Conference of Developmental Pediatrics (NCDP 2016) on 1, 2 October 2016 at The Grand Hyatt and the National Conference on Pediatric Critical Care (NCPCC) will be held from 11th to 13th November 2016 at The Grand Hyatt. Honourable members are requested to avail of the early bird registration facility. All along, the usual Central IAP programs and the regular smaller CMEs will continue to offer an academic environment through the year. Younger speakers and newer faces will hopefully step up to be the avor of the season.

I am grateful to all the members of the Mumbai Branch for the faith they have reposed in me, and to all our Ofce Bearers and Executive Board members for their staunch support and enthusiasm.

One would like to conclude with a very personal and heartfelt invitation to all of you to the President Installation Ceremony on the 14th of February.

The evening will foster an opportunity to meet and exchange pleasantries with old friends and spend a leisurely evening amidst music and sylvan surroundings beneath the February sky. "Yeh kahaan ki dosti hai ki bane hain dost naaseh, Koi charasaaz hota, koi gham gusaaz hota!" As Ghalib so lucidly puts it, the company of friends and sharing affection and feelings over a meal are healthier and wealthier than the advice of experts! We shall cheer our respected teachers, Dr. K.P. Mehta and Dr K. N. Shah being honoured with the IAP Mumbai Lifetime Achievement Awards! We shall all enjoy an amusing, insightful visit down memory lane, with Shri Ambarish Mishra waxing eloquent about the Glorious Era of Hindi Film Music. It is within this atmosphere of affection and good wishes of all of you that your new team will be installed, and it is with a huge sense of responsibility, accountability and gratitude that I thank each one of our honorable members for having giving me this huge opportunity to be a part of the team.

Sincerely,Samir H. Dalwai

Dear Members,

Greetings from the Mumbai Branch of The Indian Academy of Pediatrics!

We would be delighted to have your august presence on the occasion of The President's Installation Ceremony of the Mumbai Branch of IAP, at The Waterstones Club, Behind The Lalit Intercontinental, Sahar, Andheri East, Mumbai on the 14th of February, 2016 from 5 30 pm onwards.

The Waterstones Club is an enchanting boutique property of sylvan ambiance right in the heart of Mumbai city, only a few minutes from the International Airport.

The evening will start with the ofcial program including the Secretary's Report and the Installation of the President 2016.

The evening will feature an enchanting walk down memory lane. Most of us have an unseparable bond with Hindi Film music that stretches back to our childhood! One often remembers signicant moments of ones life in association with memorable songs- be it our childhood kite ying days, or college and canteen romance days, festivals, marriage and so on! This may not be true of the current music being churned out, but is certainly valid for the Golden Era of Hindi Film Music from 1931 (the rst "talkies"- Alam Ara) to the 80s! Names like Lata, Ra, Kishore Kumar, Naushad, Shankar- Jaikishan, Sahir Ludhiyanvi, Rajender Krishan, Asha Bhosale, Geeta Dutt, Hemant Kumar, C Ramchandra, Talat Mehmood, O P Nayyar, Gulzar, S D and R D Burman... have a deep rooted connection with our souls!

Mr Ambarish Mishra, Senior Journalist, The Times of India, celebrated author, linguist, enchanting speaker and a keen student of Hindi Film Music will share some witty, insightful and amusing anecdotes and thoughts on "The Glorious Era of Hindi Film Music". He is an authority on music, poetry, lyrics, vocals and the "magic masala" that went into creating such an enchanting part of our lives! We look forward to recreating some of that on Valentine's Day!

The stage is set for a memorable "Evening in Mumbai"! Your presence will ignite the magic!

Best Regards,Dr Samir H Dalwai,
