Folkestone Racecourse

Whatever reason you have to celebrate, why not turn a party into an event that no one will forget with a fabulous firework display that kids and adults alike will love!

AJ PYROTECHNICS Ltd is based in Folkestone and has over 10 years experience in the professional industry. Since forming the company they have had continued success with

events such as the Dover Regatta and the Lydden Hill International Race circuit and find that fireworks to music are proving to be an ever increasingly popular request.

Carrying a £15 million combined liability package, they pride themselves on their safety record, giving extreme peace of mind and making them a popular choice when it comes to schools looking for a firework display provider. All their shows are high impact and incorporate some of the newest effects available on the market today.

What’s On What To Do Where To Go What’s On What To Do Where To Go

If you live in Dover then why not have a short walk into town on a Sunday morning and

visit the brand new boot fairs that are currently being trialled at the Charlton Centre

cap park, every Sunday from 10am until 1pm. Grab yourself a great bargain!

Stuck for something to do on a Wednesday morning? Then bring the children to Deal

for the weekly farmers market with fresh local produce, bread, cakes, eggs and other

exciting things to buy.

Still in Deal, there’s another market

every week, this time on a Saturday at

the Union Road Car Park. Stalls include

jewellery, clothes, toys and food!

If you want to get out of town for a

change no matter where you are, Capel

Le Ferne is close by and hold a weekly

farmers marker every Tuesday at

10am.

If you live in Folkestone and need

somewhere to take the kiddies, why

not pop along to the Saint Saviours

Community Centre in Canterbury Road

for their weekly market from 11am

until 2pm. Always on the lookout for

more stallholders too.

A Happy Christmas was had by all!

Santa’s Grotto in the Charlton Centre was a resounding success this year, with £1257.40 being raised for two deserving causes. Santa was superb with children of all ages who visited him, even the older ones who doubted him, and all left with a lovely present and their beliefs restored. Santa bought with him his chief elves, Holly, Ivy and Carol and two trainee elves, Christian and Sammy, all who enjoyed playing Santa up with practical jokes and silly dances. Panic ensued one day in the grotto when Santa’s train derailed, TWICE in an hour but peace was soon restored when some technical men arrived with screwdrivers and batteries to fix it.

Thanks go to Santa for finding the time at his busiest time of year, to visit us here in Dover, to Sue for designing and creating the grotto’s scenery, to Stewart for help with the lighting, the Charlton Shopping Centre for all their help and the biggest thanks go to you, our visitors, for bringing your children to see Santa and making the event such a runaway success!

Perfect Pancakes! Don’t buy a ready made batter mix this year

that might be full of artificially modified

thingamy bobs! Get the kids involved and

make your very own perfect pancakes from

scratch!!

And why not experiment with different

toppings like the ones shown below.

According to the Guinness Book Of World Records, the most pancakes ever cooked in 60

minutes is a staggering 956 and the highest a pancake has ever been flipped is 7.77

metres!! We don't suggest you try flipping a pancake this high in your kitchen at home

but go on, give it a try, see if you can just flip is successfully back into the pan!

For approximately 6 pancakes you will need:

4oz flour, 1 egg, 225ml milk, 2 tbsp. butter (melted), Pinch of salt

Put the flour in a bowl and make a well in the centre. Crack the egg and pour into the well,

add a splash of milk and a pinch of salt. Stir in the egg and milk, gradually incorporating the

flour to make a smooth paste. Beat in the rest of the milk, the consistency should be like

single cream so add a little more milk or a drop of water if necessary. Finally Stir in the

butter.

Heat a frying pan until it’s really hot, brush the pan with a little melted butter and quickly tip

a ladle full of mixture into the pan so that it covers the bottom in an even layer.

When the edges look brown and crisp you can toss (or gently turn!!) the pancake to cook the

other side for a minute. Then eat and enjoy!

Traditionally pancakes are eaten with sugar and lemon juice but why not try:

Fresh Fruit Chocolate spread Jam Maple Syrup & Ice Cream

And for all those willing to experiment:

Crispy Bacon and Maple Syrup (honestly!!)
