COMMITMENT SUNDAY
Today, Archbishop Gomez invites every Catholic to make their commitment to Together in Mission. Our parish has been asked to raise “2020 PARISH GOAL $67,500”. Last year, “279 OF PARISH DONORS” helped us raise “$ 67,500.” and helped us to become one of the most generous parishes in the Archdiocese. This year’s theme “Our Story is Alive” reminds us that our gifts to Together in Mission are an active demonstration of our faith and love for those in our Archdiocese who need our support. Please make a pledge with the information that was mailed to your home, a pledge card found with the parish, or online at ourmissionla.org/give.

Together in Mission Season
“Our Story is Hope”
You must have heard me say a couple of times that I am a product of Catholic education and missionary activity. I am one of countless people around the world who have been educated, enlightened and brought to Christ through the principle of Together in Mission. I share this testimony often because it is my “Story of Hope.” I am, therefore, eternally grateful to all those who generously provided their shoulders for me to stand on. I am glad to be able to give back.
The idea of Together in Mission was originally introduced by Christ in John 6:5-13 when he used a little boy’s donation of five loaves and two fish to feed “more than” five thousand people including women and children. He created an opportunity for people to love their neighbors by sharing their resources. Through our parishes and schools, we continue to maintain the spirit of sharing and evangelization.
I am very proud to say that members of this parish are living up to their name – parishioners of Sacred Heart Church. The Sacred Heart of Jesus is the heart of sacrificial giving, selfless love, and generous sharing. This is the heart of Together in Mission. Let us continue the growth we have seen at our parish. Your generous pledges to Together in Mission will go a long way in advancing the work of salvation in our parish and school. Let us keep in mind the words of Jesus that giving is bilateral. It goes both ways – we receive as much as we give: “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you” Lk 6:38. So “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver” 2 Cor 9:7. Thank you for giving and may God bless you abundantly through Christ our Lord. Amen.

I love being able to help others in whatever way that I can do so. I have been so blessed to serve not only in our community but in communities around the world helping out those in need. Next month I will once again be joining West Africa Community Missions in going to Port Antonio, Jamaica to serve those in need. I can honestly say that this is happening at a time in my life that is a whirlwind of insanity but when the Lord calls you answer. I once again am asking for your help to cover the cost of this trip. This will cost me $2000 to go on this trip and I cannot do it alone. If you would like to help cover the cost for this trip please bring your donation to the rectory in an envelope marked youth ministry and it will be put in my box. If you are writing a check you can make the check payable to: W.A.C.M. I want to thank you all for your past and hopefully current help in supporting me on this trip to help those in need. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Upcoming Events: February 19-No Youth Group February 20-L.A. Youth Day Year 1 Teens
YOUTH MINISTRY MINISTERIO JUVENIL [email protected]
DID YOU KNOW? Make a playground checklist Parents sometimes think of playgrounds as “drop zones” for their kids — keep an eye or an ear out, but otherwise settle in on a bench while your child burns off energy. Nearly 170,000 children were injured on playgrounds in 2019, and a few moments of careful attention could keep your child from joining those ranks. When you get to a playground, check out the surfaces underneath the equipment, especially equipment that allows children to jump
or hang from it. The ground surface should be soft and shock absorbent. Check equipment for visible dangers — loose or missing pieces, sharp angles, broken supports, etc. For more tips, get a copy of the VIRTUS® article “Playground Checklist” at http://www.la-archdiocese.org/org/protecting/
Pages/VIRTUS-Current-Online-Articles.aspx.
