The Programming Board provides stu- dents with a wide variety of opportunities for positive social interactions and involvement on the FGCU campus, whether it be serving on the Executive Board, the General Board, or simply attending a Programming Board event. Studies show that students who are involved in their campus community devote more time to their academic pursuits, spend more time on campus, are active participants in student organizations, more frequently interact with other students, staff, and faculty, and are more likely to persist to graduation (Astin, 1996; Kuh, Douglas, Lund, Ramin-Gyurmek, 1994). The Programming Board Executive Board is made up of student leaders from across campus. Students are chosen through an application and interview process. Last year, 35 students ap- plied for the 10 available positions. Students who serve on the Executive Board develop skills in several areas of leadership development, including communication, problem-solving, event planning, critical thinking, and risk management. These skills will aid the PB student leaders in becoming more effective learners and more marketable candidates after graduation. The FGCU Programming Board held over 25 events last semester. The fall started off strong with the annual Week of Welcome celebration, where PB collaborated with several departments across campus for a week of fun for incoming students. Some of the events this week included: Outdoor Carnival, Beach Blast, Headphone Disco, ROC the Nest, and the Day of Service. Addi- tional programs throughout the semester include several Late Night Events, beginning with the inaugural Halloween celebration - Zombie Fest and a showing of the popular movie Twilight: Breaking Dawn, which was available at no cost to 300 students. One of our most anticipated pro- grams, Winter Wonderland, featured several stuff-a-bear stations, food options, hot chocolate bar, an acappella singing group, and PB mementos for over 3,000 students. The intentional offerings of the FGCU Programming Board have proven to be very effective, as indicated in the feedback we receive from our students. This success was also recognized by Campus Activities Magazine when PB received the recognition of Programming Board of the Month for March 2012. Astin, A.W. (1996a). The Florida Gulf Coast University Programming Board is dedicated to providing educational and social entertainment to our university community through leadership, involvement, and diversified programming. The Programming Board promotes school spirit and motivates students to become involved. Through our initiatives, objectives, and goals, the Program-ming Board strives to empower our student body in their efforts to make the most of their college experience.

In October 2012 the FGCU Programming Board conducted a needs assessment which surveyed the students of FGCU. Feedback from the 537 students who participated in this survey was used to guide programs offered to the FGCU community. Results from our sur-vey show that current students feel the events offered by the Programming Board have contributed to their experiences here at FGCU in a positive way.
