The meeting attracted over 60 entries from across the North Island and as far south as Christchurch. KartSport Taranaki had a number of rookie and seasoned drivers taking part across the six classes during a hot but windy race day Cadet ROK was represented by Bronson Pierce in his first step-up to the bigger meetings and he had a solid hit-out in a borrowed kart to finish up in 9th in both the heat races and the 12 lap Grand Prix. An impressive achievement, as he was competing against the eventual winner and current South Island Champion Louis Sharp from Christchurch and a hard-charging North Island Champion from Wellington so Pierce will be one to watch in future. New Plymouth’s 12 year old Thomas Boniface had to work hard for his Vortex Mini ROK class win, driving his sisters 12 year old chassis after selling his Tony Kart Nordix in preparation for a switch to car racing. Boniface drove very consistently, securing only one race win but still taking the event win by 3 points over Auckland’s Liam Sceats and Mason Potter. Logan Smith of Hawera showed fantastic pace during the day but suffered from slower traffic holding him up, still finishing the weekend in 5th. Other drivers to do well were Harris Krogh (14 th ), Ben Isaac (15 th ) and Luke Barnett-Bright (20 th ). Boniface was 3rd in the class Grand Prix behind Liam Sceats and recently crowned South Island champion Zac Christensen of Christchurch. The Final was marred by a significant crash involving 10 karts and causing a red flag. However, there were no serious injuries to drivers but some wallets took a hammering and most of the karts were able to restart the Final. Ryan Wood from Wellington was another driver to claim a class and GP race win, this time in the Rotax Max Junior class. But with both last season's Vortex Mini ROK class winner Jackson Rooney and inaugural New Zealand ROK Cup Vortex Mini ROK title holder William Exton now running in the Rotax Max Junior class Wood's job is not going to get any easier. As it was both he and Rooney claimed two heat wins apiece and both ended up with the same score, the final result having to go to countback with Wood getting the nod from Rooney, Exton and second-generation Hawke's Bay racers Zac Stichbury and Ronan Murphy, a result which was mirrored in the class Grand Prix race. Rooney twice broke the class lap record during the day and scored the same number of wins, seconds and thirds as eventual winner Wood. Bell Block’s Nathan Cox charged hard all day, ending up 9th in the event and 10th in the Grand Prix. Braden Parsons of Palmerston North went one better in the ClubSport 120 class, claiming three heat wins from five starts meaning the 2015/16 season series' runner-up took the round win from Taranaki’s Derek Lawrence and Ivan Smith, the latter who has made a return to karting after a long hiatus. Others competing in the ClubSport 120 class from Taranaki were Roger Pepperell (4 th ), Garth Lacey (5 th ), Richard Krogh (6 th ) and Stuart Frew (8 th ). All these drivers experienced how close this class is and produced some fantastic racing. There was a surprise in 125cc Rotax Max Light class, with Christchurch's kart-turned-stock-car star Scott Manson staging a winning return to his roots to claim round honours from locals Logan Boyde and Campbell Jamieson. Boyde is the current NZ1 and NZ Grand Prix Champion in the Road Racing formula, but did not quite have enough to hold off Manson who won 4 of the 5 heats. The big news in the Open class was the winning return of Manawatu’s Andrew Hoare, who won the round from New Plymouth's Brendon Jury and Rangiora's Chris Cox, and the Open Grand Prix race from Clint Beaumont from Palmerston North, Cox and Brendon Jury. The gearbox karts were simply too fast in the hot and sticky conditions, although Jury did extremely well to stay in touch with the super-fast karts. WPKA Goldstar Series Opener produces Fireworks

The opening round of the 2016/17 Manawatu & TRC Toyota WPKA Goldstar Series at Todd Energy Raceway was staged on Sunday. The meeting attracted over 60 entries from across the North Island and as far south as Christchurch. KartSport Taranaki had a number of rookie and seasoned drivers taking part across the six classes during a hot but windy race day

Cadet ROK was represented by Bronson Pierce in his first step-up to the bigger meetings and he had a solid hit-out in a borrowed kart to finish up in 9th in both the heat races and the 12 lap Grand Prix.

(15th) and Luke Barnett-Bright (20th).

After a break over summer the 2016/17 Manawatu & TRC Toyota WPKA Goldstar Series will resume at the KartSport Wellington club's George Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Raceway at Kaitoke on Sunday 05 March.

Presidents Report – Mike Jury

Hi Everyone, Well the first round of Goldstar is behind us now. As a club, we need to give a big thanks once again to Steve & Donna Boyde, Maurice Frost, Donna Boniface and all her team in the kitchen, and the rest of our committee and volunteers that make these events run so smoothly. A lot of time and effort goes into these events which results in positive comments from out of towners who attend the event. The work these people do really does make the difference. Well done to all those who competed. We had some great results from our members. I hope you all enjoyed having the larger fields to compete in and will now travel to the next rounds for some great racing. I hope to see plenty of entries at this weekend’s Club Champs round. It’s always a good meeting to attend so drag all your karts out and we’ll see you there. Keepsie trophies will be awarded at the end of the day at prizegiving. The committee are in the process of doing a Health & Safety Review at the track, so you will notice a few changes happening in the track signage and briefings at club days. Please take note of all the signage and warnings that are given so we can make things as safe as possible for all who attend the Todd Energy Raceway. If anyone has any safety issues they would like looked at, please feel free to let me know so we can address them. Hope to see you all at Club Champs. Mike.

Jokes

A woman caught her husband on

the weight scale, sucking in his stomach.

“That won’t help you, Joe, you know?”

“Oh it helps a lot,” says the man, “it’s the only way I can see the numbers!”

“Sir, you cannot fish here!” “Don’t worry, I’m not fishing, I’m just teaching my worm to swim.”

A girl asks a boy: "Peter, how much do you love me?" The boy looks her in the eyes, "Look up at the stars, that's how much I love you."

The girl is confused, “But it’s morning, there are no stars?” Boy nods, "Exactly!"

The wife just loves it when I go racing and spending OUR

money......

Tonight I dreamed of a beautiful walk on a sandy beach. At least that explains the footprints I found in the morning in the cat litter box.

Knock! Knock! Jokes!

Knock, knock. Who’s there? Canoe! Canoe who? Canoe come out and play with me today?

Knock, knock Who’s there? Who! Who who? That’s what an owl says!

Knock, knock. Who’s there? Lettuce. Lettuce who? Lettuce in, it’s cold out here.

Knock, knock. Who’s there? Honey bee. Honey bee who? Honey bee a dear and get me some juice.

Knock, knock. Who’s there? Wooden shoe. Wooden shoe who? Wooden shoe like to hear another joke?

I wonder what my parents did to fight

boredom before the internet. I asked my 17

brothers and sisters and they didn't know

either.
