FEBRUARY 2016 PAGE 1 Message from the Commodore: What a seesaw season this has been! One day it's a low of -1and six days later it's 60. Certainly local ice has been a disappointment. Club members have been traveling to the northern regions of ME, NH and VT in search of sailable ice. Fortunately, the DN North American Championship regatta found a large plate of good ice out in Madison Wisconsin. The LRIBYC is well represented by our members Scott, Pete, Chris and Hank. We wish them well. I'm asking anyone holding a perpetual club trophy to bring it to our March 1st meeting. Please - Cleaned and Polished. Even though the season has given us limited sailable local ice, there will be trophies handed out at our annual Awards Dinner in April. At our March meeting we will be voting on club officers for the next two years. In addition, a detailed report of the NA's will be presented as well as club sailings in the many northern New England lakes. Should be an exciting meeting. Six J14s from Long Island, Cleveland,OH, Western NY and Connecticut rallied at Mallets Bay, Lake Champlain for three days of fun sailing with conditions from bumpy fast, to wet and fast, to just fast glassy smooth ice. CLUB members George N., Rich Batista & Mike in J14s, joined by Richard Gluckman in his DN. John & Rosemary finished off the long weekend with a great Monday & Tuesday.

CLUB MEETING -TUESDAY, MARCH 1, 2016AT WEEKS YACHT YARD.

Great refreshments. Great conversation. Great atmosphere.7:00 pm the fun starts at Weeks Yacht Yard in Patchogue.

Remember - Return your POLISHED TROPHIES, please!

Some Thoughts:

There is always ICE somewhere, it doesn’t always come to you. There is nothing like getting a group together, taking a chance, hitting the road and finding a great plate of ice. You will meet old friends,

make new ones and share stories over dinner. We are blessed with a lot of locations on the East Coast and they often don’t share the same weather patterns making good ice available with a bit of searching. Get to know locals who you can contact to find conditions, they will talk to you but may

not post conditions on line. We still must rely on friends. Just got a call from Michigan, car is ready, making plans. Hope you all find some iceboating in the next two weeks, Spring is on the doorstep and

we will all get excited to sail at 6 knots again while waiting for winter.Mike Acebo J14 #21, JX #242
