To those that have served in the armed forces and who are currently serving a very BIG THANK YOU for your service.
Brethren and friends,A big thank you to everyone who attended last month’s stated
meeting. As promised, we have decided to make it a point to try and include Masonic education as part of our monthly meeting as much as possible. In this regard, I would thank Bro. Carlos Alvarez for taking time to make a presentation regarding regular high school graduation rituals and paraphernalia and its connections to freemasonry.
We would also like to thank everyone who attended the Robert Burns dinner January 28th, and a special thanks to Worshipful Bros. Gibb and Whelan for setting up the program. I am sure it was quite an experience especially for those who were attending such an event for the first time.
Congratulations are also in order for the newly elected officers of our Temple Board, Mike Lampe (President), Keith Renner (Vice-President), Richard Puckett (Secretary) and Lee Whelan, PM (Treasurer). Thanks to the outgoing President Robert Gibb for his tireless energy in running the board and with the upkeep of the building and taking care of his little buddies by saving the board a lot of money.
We invite everyone to join us for our meeting on the 4th. We will have meat loaf with all the trimmings. In addition to our usual business meeting, we will have another Masonic education presentation. For dinner reservation, kindly contact Dave Murr, PM at (951) 784-2670; [email protected].

25 CONSECUTIVE YEARS AS GRAND LODGE OFFICER
In October, Benny L. Grisham was re-elected as Grand Treasurer of the Grand Lodge of Illinois - his 25th consecutive year of such service.
Bro. Grisham began his sting of service as an elected Grand Warden and served as Grand Master in 1997-98, and then continued as Grand Secretary, and currently Grand Treasurer.
Active in numerous Masonic organizations, Most Worshipful Bro. Grisham is also the Scottish Rite Deputy for Illinois for the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction.
WHO, AGAIN, WITH THE FIRST PRESIDENT OF THE U.S.?It was quite a surprise to see the headline in a Lodge
newsletter, saying that John Hanson was the first president of the United States.
Hanson, not known to be a Mason, was an American patriot. He was elected to the Provinical Legislature of Maryland in 1775, and then in 1977 became a member of Congress, where he distinguished himself as a brilliant administrator. Then , he was elected as the first President in 1781. What?
The new country was actually founded on March 1, 1781, with the adoption of the Articles of Confederation, and John Hanson was chosen unanimously by Congress, which included George Washington.
Six other presidents followed John Hanson, with each serving a one-year term. Why don’t we hear of the first seven Presidents? It is quite simple - the Articles of Confederation did not work well. The individual states had too much power and nothing could be agreed upon. A new doctrine needed to be written - something we know today as the Constitution.
George Washington was the first President of the United States under the Constitution we follow today. His term as President was from 1789-1797.
But John Hanson accomplished much in his one year in office. Almost immediately, the troops threatened to overthrow the new government and put George Washington on the throne as a monarch. Hanson calmed the troops and held the country together.
Other accomplishments by President Hanson included ordering all foreign troops off American soli, removal of all foreign flags, establishing the Great Seal of the United States (still in use), created the first Treasury Department, the first Secretary of State, the first Foreign Affairs Department, and declaring the fourth Thursday of November to be Thanksgiving Day.
Hanson and the other six Presidents under the Articles of Confederation are forgotten in history. Today, we proudly proclaim Brother George Washington as the first President and Father of our Country.
This month we recognize the birth dates of Brother George Washington and Abraham Lincoln both recognized as great Presidents.
Riverside York Rite Bodies Commandery meets on the 3rd Monday at 7:30pm
Royal Arch Chapter and Cryptic Council meet on the 3rd Wednesday at 6:30pm (all dark July & August)
Companions and Sir Knights:The York Rite is a collection of several Masonic Degrees and Orders
which are conferred upon those Master Masons who seek further Light in Masonry beyond that of the Master Mason Degree. The oldest existing document which is clearly Masonic is the Regius Manuscript, dating from 1390 A.D. In it we read that the Saxon monarch Athelstan convened a general assembly of the Craft in City of York in 926 A.D. Athelstan was the first King of England and reigned more that a thousnad years ago. He granted the first charter to the Masonic guilds of York.
Riverside York Rite has installed its 2016 Officers and the presiding Officers of each body are:
Micheal Padilla - High Priest of the ChapterGary Miller, IPM - Illustrious Master of the CouncilShelby Ericson - Commander of the Commandery
We extend our congratulations and hope that they have a very good year and the bodies continue to grow with many new members.
We will continue to meet on the 3rd Wednesday for the Chapter and Council and the 3rd Monday for the Commandery.
We will hold our annual fund raiser at the Riverside Cmmunity Playhouse, in which we reserve the entire’theatre in the round;, on March 31st. The play is called “Black Coffee” by Agatha Christie.
It is the first piece that she wrote for the stage. She finished writing it in late 1929 and he was staged in late 1930 and played off and on until mid 1931.
The play’s scene is laid in the library of Abbot’s Cleve, Sir Claud Amory’s house, about 25 miles from London. Hercule Poirot and his friend Arthur Hastings are summoned to the house but they discover on their arrival that the owner of the house has been murdered. The plot revolves around a stolen formula, with Poirot deducing which of house guests/family members is the killer.
We confer our York Rite Degrees and Orders in a festival setting in collabration with the other local bodies. Our next shcedule in April 2 for the Chapter Degrees, April 16 for the Council Degrees and May 7 for the Commadnery Orders.
