The Coliseum, a 66,000 square foot neoclassical facility at the axis of Fourth and Court streets, was erected in 1917 as a tribute to Vanderburgh County's veterans of both the American Civil and Spanish-American wars.

Also known as the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Coliseum, the Veterans Memorial Coliseum and the Evansville Coliseum, this venue can still seat 2,400 visitors (more than 4,000 if they're standing).

Once hailed as the premiere events location in Evansville, the coliseum began to fall out of vogue with the community after the completion of the now demolished Roberts Stadium. These days, however, The Coliseum regularly opens its doors to the community for sporting events, plays, exhibitions, weddings, and other community events such as roller derby.
