ARTICLE DEADLINE

FOR THE MARCH

NEWSLETTER IS

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 25.

E-mail articles to

[email protected]

Calling all Brother Knights to invite

your family, friends, co-workers or

anyone that has a big appetite to

Hoss’s Steak & Sea House in Indiana

on Feb 19, 2017 for a special Council

fundraiser.

This is a simple and easy way for us to

raise a little money for our Council.

How it works is simple. I’ll have pre-

printed “Cash Cow” cards from Hoss’s

at the next Knights meeting. The cards

have the date, our organization name,

and group number on it. We just need

to distribute cards to family and

friends. One card is good for the entire

table, so you don’t have to give it to

every member of the family. The fund-

raiser runs all day, so it can be used

for lunch or dinner.

How do the Knights make money from

this? The person using the card gives

it to the server before ordering. At the

end of the day Hoss’s takes the total

pre-tax amount of the meals for the

people using the cards, and our organ-

ization receives 20% if the amount is at

least $300.00, and 25% if the amount

is $1200.00 or more. What a good day

for everyone to order that big juicy

steak. We will also be distributing

cards after Saturday February 18th

evening Mass and all Sunday the 19th

morning masses, so we’ll need a few

volunteers. Sign up sheet will be at

next meeting. If you can’t make it to

the meeting or mass, just cut out the

Cash Cow card from this newsletter

and bring it with you to Hoss’s on Feb-

ruary 19th. Contact Brother Jeff Bacha

at [email protected], text/call (724)

422-5829. Thank you and God Bless.

Applications are now available for our Council’s 2017

FRANK SIBLEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP. Any

high school senior who is a child or grandchild of a

Council member in good standing—or of a deceased

member of Council 1481—is eligible for the $1,500 scholarship. An appli-

cant must be a member of the Catholic Church and a candidate for gradua-

tion from a recognized four-year high school during the term ending in May/

June, 2017. Proof of acceptance to an institution of higher education, an

official high school transcript showing an overall grade point average of at

least 2.75, two letters of recommendation and an autobiographical manu-

script identifying career goals are among the requirements for considera-

tion.

Complete details are included in the application, which is available from

Grand Knight Don Hogan and in the guidance departments of area high

schools. The application deadline is April 1.

The annual “Pig Roast” now the “Sandwich Blitz” was a huge suc-cess! Sausage and Sloppy Joe sand-wiches with a huge selection of snack foods were enjoyed by all. Beer and soft drinks too. The NFC game was shown on three 60" TVs. Thanks to all who helped with setup and clean-up. Special thanks to Bob Dalecki and Dicky Kurimsky who made this happen. Also thanks to John Walker, PJ Belin and Kevin Buggey.

Sandwich Blitz a Big Success!

PRAYER FOR THE DIGNITY

of HUMAN LIFE Lord and Giver of all life, help us to value

each person, created in love by You. In

Your mercy, guide and assist our efforts to

promote the dignity and value of human

life, born and unborn. We ask this through

Christ our Lord. Amen

Excerpted from the article “Vice President Speaks at March for Life,” http://www.kofc.org/

… This year, as in past years, the crowd at the March for Life consisted of people of all faiths and political backgrounds. Countless pro-life banners and flags were on display, including the thousands of Knights of Columbus “Defend Life” and “Choose Life” signs distributed by the D.C. State Council. Many partici-pants attended with their families and young chil-dren. Others, such as college and high school stu-dents, traveled together on parish- or school-sponsored buses.

Armed with cell phones, many marchers shared their support of life on social media using the hashtag #PowerofOne, which was the hopeful theme of this year’s march. The theme emphasized the power that each individual person can have in building a culture that protects life at each and every stage.

Following the rally, the nearly 2-mile march began from the National Mall and progressed past the U.S. Capitol before concluding at the Supreme Court building.

Standing together, marchers once more defended the weakest in society. It is a cause that has endured both weather and time as people continue to make a stand — or in this case, a march — for life.

Measure-Up Collections at Stores Set for May 5 & 6

The grocery store col-lections for this year’s Measure Up Cam-paign have been scheduled for Friday, May 5, and Saturday May 6. As in past years, we will be collecting from the BiLo, Giant Eagle and Walmart stores in Indiana and Tates in Clymer for the Arc of Pennsylvania. This year, according to brother Bob Dalecki, individuals who would like to view the schedules for each grocery store and possi-bly sign up for one or more available time slots, should be able to do so by going online to our website. More information will be listed in the March and April Council newsletters.

We are wrapping-up the “Keep Christ in Christmas” post-er contest; there was great participation by the students, the posters are judged, and the winners will be announced soon. Thanks go out to all the brother knights who helped with the St. Bernard School Pancake Breakfast recently at St. Thomas More Parish. Also, thanks to all of you who showed your support by attending the breakfast. All our support is greatly appreciated, and noticed by many peo-ple! Keep your eyes open for the large banner that we spon-sored for St. Bernard School. It will soon be over Main Street in downtown Indiana, giving both the School and the Knights of Columbus some publicity. Mike Morris
