Group of students at Atlanta University (1900s).
From the 1910s through the 1950s, oil permeated every aspect of life in Butler County. Those in the oil fields found work that was hard and dangerous, but also created bonds that lasted over the decades. Although quiet, the grasslands of modern Butler County still bear traces of the dynamic search for black gold that shapes lives to this day.

Monday, February 19 @ 8PMThe rich history of America’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) began before the end of slavery, flourished in the 20th Century, and have profoundly influenced the course of the nation for more than 150 years — yet they remain largely unknown. The latest documentary from Stanley Nelson (Black Panthers, Freedom Riders), America’s foremost film chronicler of the African-American experience, the powerful story of the rise, influence, and evolution of HBCUs comes to life.
RAT FILM Monday, February 26 @ 9PM
