Term two has already been a busy one for BST Music with many events happening across the Primary and Secondary school. This week alone we have had the school musical ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ in the Green Hall and next week sees the Green Hall host the Primary Instrumentalists’ concert.

On Monday the 5th and Tuesday the 6th of February BST Primary became the first school outside of the UK to take part in Sign2Sing. This was really exciting for the children to be part of such a worthwhile cause. Sign2Sing is an annual singing event run by the deaf charity SignHealth who aim to improve the lives of deaf children and adults in the UK. Children in the primary school learned a lot about what it means to be deaf and how they can support charities like SignHealth who help to teach sign language and other skills to people who are deaf. We had two events over two days which were a great success. It was wonderful to hear so many children singing and to see them all using sign language together in support of the charity. As you can see, children at BST are wonderful SignHealth ambassadors.

Little Shop of Horrors

Student VoiceTille V. (Year 6)

My name is Tille, I’m in year 6. And I play two instruments. I started the accordion when I was six, and have been playing for five years since. The accordion is a rare instrument and is very complex, it has about 4 octaves played by the right hand and 96 bass buttons played by the left. As well as this it has to be pulled and pushed whilst playing.I love being able to play different types of music and make my accordion sound like other instruments. I have lessons once a week with my teacher, Tomomi Ota. Luckily for me, she comes to my house because my accordion weighs 7.8kg.

I have also been playing flute for one and a half years. My lessons are in school with Ms.Tochigi and I play in the primary orchestra. Lots of people ask me why my flute is bent (they think it’s broken!) but actually it has a curve just before the mouth piece to make it shorter and easier to play when you’re small.

I practise both my instruments nearly everyday, and I absolutely love it. I do wish more people would play the accordion since it is such a beautiful instrument.

Wednesday the 21st of February was the opening night of the BST musical ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ in the Green Hall. Here is a sneak peak. the final performance is tonight, Friday the 23rd of February so if you haven’t seen this wonderful show, you still have a chance. This performance starts at 6.00pm. Don’t miss out!
