Principal’s Report
Dear DSPS School Community,
What is a school AIP? Each year schools develop an Annual Implementation Plan known as an AIP. The AIP is a road map for improving student achievement and school outcomes during the year based on goals that have been established through a school review process. Our 3 school goals at Drouin South Primary School in our new strategic plan are as follows:
1. To build a whole-school improvement culture with high expectations and accountability for student outcomes.
2. To improve student learning growth and achievements in English and Mathematics for all students F-6.
3. To build student engagement and connectedness with shared high expectations for learning and behaviour.
Our school Annual Implementation plan outlines our targets, actions and strategies that we will step out throughout 2019 in order to work towards these goals. A copy of our school AIP for 2019 can be found on the school website www.drouinsouth.vic.edu.au Tarago Swimming Congratulations to our Swimming Team who participated at Tarago Swimming Championships on Tuesday. Well done to Haidee, Dane, Taylor, Courtney, Jaxon, Amy, Jake, Lela and Tyler on your fantastic efforts! Class Dojo Some of our classes this year will be once again using the Class Dojo app as a tool for communication with parents. We are going to need to limit the accounts to a maximum 2 per family. This is to allow accounts to be set up for 1 or 2 parents rather than for extended family members which also allows for some privacy in the messages that take place between home and school. On the whole, parent feedback has been extremely positive in terms of Class Dojo as a communication tool. School Photos Just a reminder that our school photo day will be held next Thursday, 28th February. Please ensure your child(ren) are in their full school uniform on this day and that any accessories (eg. hair ties/bows) are only worn if they are navy blue.

Student Voice, Agency and Leadership Yesterday I attended a Principals’ network meeting where we discussed the importance of student voice, agency and leadership within schools. All schools are striving to provide opportunities for students in these three areas. At Drouin South we have already taken steps towards providing students with opportunities to develop these three elements. Our student leaders, values leaders and Junior School Council all provide opportunities for voice and leadership. These students meet regularly, conduct school wide events and address peers at assemblies on a regular basis. Student agency refers to the level of involvement and power a student has in their learning environment. Individual goal setting with teachers, participation in 3-Way conversations and options to have choice in some elements of the curriculum are all ways that we are addressing student agency at Drouin South Primary School.

This week the grade 4/5’s have been learning about leading sentences, similes and metaphors. Great Work Shanay! The buildings are collapsing like it’s the end of the world. One went then another people left. The sky is a pile of dust in every blink. It is the end of the city. New York is no more, but in the distance a bit of a bulldog leaping a way out of sight. There was nothing left it’s like shattered glass.

We're Busy Growing in Grade 2! We've had a few busy weeks to start the
2019 school year in grade 2. Our focus
unit is about Identity and how we grow,
physically, emotionally and socially. The
students have been researching (with help
from their family), preparing and creating
individual timelines at school.

Linking with the concept of growth we first grew bean seeds in paper towel.
We've now progressed to using potting mix. As some of the seeds have
developed we are able to track their growth.

On Tuesday February 19th, ten students from Drouin South Primary School en-
tered in the Tarago Swimming Sports. The students battled bravely against very
experienced and strong opposition. All the students can be extremely proud of
their efforts and they all represented our school with pride and dignity.
Congratulations to Courtney who made it through to the next stage. We couldn’t
be any more impressed with the endeavour, effort and overall behaviour from the
Drouin South students. Not once did they contemplate giving up demonstrating
wonderful resilience. Thank you to the parents that assisted in the transportation
(Leanne, Leanne, Tania and Brett) and support on the day. I have included a list of
what events our students entered in.
