CLARIFICATIONS:

Clarifications and Questions from the February 14, 2018 Pre-Bid Conference & Site Walk

Bidders are responsible for all locates. There is some asbestos in the walls , so the contractor will need to have someone who is certified on-site when it is disturbed, i.e. during drilling and cutting, etc. The PA system needs to be operational at all times, so while you are installing the new system, the old system needs to stay live. The school needs to be able to broadcast in case of an emergency. Everything in the new system needs to be labeled. The contractor is responsible for obtaining and paying for all permits. All shop drawings and submittals must be submitted to the District for review prior to the start of the work. Adequate time must be allowed for review by the District’s engineer. Question: Does all of the wiring need to be replaced? Answer: Yes. Troubleshooting the existing wiring is one of our biggest problems. In the replacement

system, everything is in zones so we can easily troubleshoot any problems. Question: Does the old system need to be demolished or can it be abandoned in place? Answer: It needs to be demolished and completely removed. Question: In the locations where the old speakers are removed, are cover plates acceptable or do the walls

need to be patched or ceiling tile replaced? Answer: It depends on the location. In general, the walls will need to be patched or the ceiling tiles will

need to be replaced. The use of cover plates will need to be coordinated with and approved by the District. The District uses Rodda paint products. We can let the contractor know the color used in each specific location.

Question: Does the District have any extra ceiling tiles on hand to match the existing? Answer: No. The contractor will need to provide replacements to match the existing as close as possible.

They will need to be fire rated tiles. Question: Are the clocks part of the work? Answer: No. All clocks have been installed and are no longer part of this project. Disregard any notation

and/or drawings referring to the replacement of the clock system. Question: Does the District want anything salvaged? Answer: All equipment should be removed and staged in an area designated by the District

Representative for review by the District to determine if we want to keep anything. The Contractor will be responsible for the disposal of all unwanted items.

Question: Is there any two-way communication or is the system paging only? Answer: It is paging only.

Question: How many zones are there? Answer: They are indicated on the drawings. Question: Is rack space going to be provided by the District? Answer: Your bid should include rack space provided by the contractor.

Questions submitted via e-mail

Question: I was wondering if there was a budget/engineer’s estimate available for this project? Answer: We do not have an engineer’s estimate, or budget for this work. Question: In hard lid areas, is the preferred method for wire surface mounted similar to current conditions

in the building, or should surface mount raceway be used? Answer: Surface mounted raceways should be used. Do not attach wiring to the existing bundles. From

our understanding, some of those wires have been abandoned in past projects and have not been removed. All of those wires will be removed at some point and we do not want the new wires being mistaken as part of that lot.

Question: The plan appears to show ceiling speakers in many areas where there are currently surface

mount speakers. Is there a preference to using ceiling mount over wall mount? Answer: Flush ceiling mounted speakers are preferred wherever possible. There are areas where wall

mounted speakers will be our only option. Question: Are there any areas of the school where there will be summer activities that cannot be

impacted? Assuming that some classrooms will be in use and that we can work with the school to schedule activities in revolving areas to give us access into each area during normal hours. The concern is that there may be special areas like Labs or Gyms that will be in use during normal hours and that they will not have alternative locations to use.

Answer: As long as we can notify the school far ahead of time and can adhere to a rigid schedule, we are confident that we can coordinate construction activities with ongoing classes. It is paramount to assign a Project Manager that has strong communication and management skills on this project.
