WILLIAMS Southwest Horizon School Division invites you to attend the open house of The Souris Administration Office on April 9 2014 Cake and Refreshments will be provided along with a tour of our new building. Please join us from 4 P.M. to 6 P.M. at 67 Willow Avenue East (directly west of the Souris School) LOST AND FOUND Our four large Tupperware containers, of mostly clothing, turned into the Lost and Found is overflowing. Please feel free to stop by and check through the containers to see if you can find any articles you may be missing within your family. The clothing will be washed and sent away to the Samaritan House in Spring Break. 8 x 8 STORAGE SHED FOR SALE The Grade 12 Construction class would like to offer you the chance to help support their growing program, and remove some clutter from your garage or basement. As an application of the skills taught during the course, the Grade 12 Construction class has built an 8’ x 8’ storage shed, complete with texture plywood siding, double doors (opening just shy of 4’) and a shingled roof. It is available now for the low price of $775 ($705 for material, 10% to help expand the Construction course), and can be stored at the school until the snow melts. Monday to Friday at the school office. Parents are asked to bring their child’s birth certificate when they come to register, so we can make a copy for our files. Children must be five years of age on or before December 31st, 2014. Anyone who is aware of neighbors and friends who may have children ready to begin Kindergarten in the fall are asked to pass the message on to them to assist with our school planning. OLD YEARBOOKS FOR SALE We have a number of old yearbooks for sale. They are available at the office for $1.00 each. Below you will find the years and the number of copies available. CAREER EXPLORATION NEWS Next week there are a lot of opportunities for Career Exploration. Monday 3rd 11:15am - presentation

Tierney Edmunds - Mount Royal University. Tuesday 4th the Grade 10 and 11 students will be attending the Career Symposium in Brandon, permission forms have been given out and need to be returned prior to this day. Thursday 6th - 11:15am Lakeland College will be giving a presentation. Friday 7th - 11:15 Alan Robertson will be working with Miss. Hannah's class on Adobe Illustrator. Any students wishing to attend the in-school presentations need to come and speak to Mrs.West. Scholarships Every week more scholarship opportunities arrive at the school. Next Meeting: Monday March 10, 2014 (AGM) Call For Nominations The Souris School Parent Advisory Council Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held on Monday, March 10, 2014 at 7:00 pm. The agenda for this meeting will include the annual financial report, projected budget for 2013-14 and elections for executive positions. Executive positions available are:

President (non-voting) – the president chairs meetings, arranges agendas, and appoints and monitors committees Treasurer –the treasurer is responsible for financial duties, including paying bills, preparing financial reports, assisting with drafting budgets Early Years Representative, Middle Years Representative, Senior Years Representative. These advocate for concerns and interests of the area they represent

JV Girls Basketball

JV Boys Basketball The JB Boys had a great game on February 18th against the Killarney Raiders. Every player showed a lot of improvement and played very well. Leading the team in points was King Zapanta with 13 [oints. Though they played hard the boys lost. •Coach Zadorozny Grade 7 and 8 Boys Basketball The Grade 7/8 Boys Basketball Team travelled to Virden this past Wednesday for the Zone Basketball tournament. They went undefeated into the final match vs Kola. The boys gave it their all and finished second. Great Job Boys! •Coach Cooke Varsity Girls Basketball The Varsity Girls Basketball Team finished second at the Elton Invitational Tournament on Valentine weekend. The girls played great Friday beating Elton and Elm Creek. The ladies beat Hamiota in the semifinal, but fell to Teulon in the final. Great Job Ladies! The Varsity Girls Basketball team opened up Game 1 of their provincial playoff with Boissevain February 25th. The girls had a slow start but managed to keep the game close trailing by 5 at halftime. The third quarter belonged to the Sabres as they outscored the Broncos 19-3. The ladies pulled away to win 61-40. Emma Boisvert

had her best game as a Sabre pouring in 24 points. Sarah Palson was held scoreless in the first half but still managed her third triple/double of the year scoring 12 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 steals. Jessie Robbins added 9.

Curling Congratulations to Grant Jackson and his team of Brayden Payette (Brandon, Marc Vachon (Oak Lake) and Kyle Gardiner (Brandon) who won the U-18 Men’s Birth to represent Westman at the 2014 Mnitoba Games held in Morden-Winkler. Teams representing Norman, Central, Eastman, Parkland, Interlake and two Winnipeg teams will also be competing. Opening ceremonies will take place on Sunday, March 2nd. The team will be there until March 5th. The team curls regularly in the Brandon Juniors Super League. All the best at the Winter Games Grant.
