Practice Problem Section of Notebook, Please
Before we begin, a mathematical truth to consider. (2 x 5)( 4 x 5) = (2 x 4) (5 x 5)
Another way to state this is: (2 x 5)( 4 x 5) = (2 x 4) (51 x 51)
Which is, of course, (2 x 4) (52)
We used both the commutative and associative properties to rearrange the original problem. As mentioned before, take what you already know, find similarities, and proceed.
Let's look at specific problems to solve:
Multiplying & Dividing Monomials Written in Scientific Notation
Practice Problems:
Write 14.45 in scientific notation:
= 1.445 x (101 x 108)
Next, Use the associative property to regroup.
Use the associative & commutative properties to regroup.
= (1.445 x 101)
x 108
= 1.445 x 109
