Blessed with God’s love and grace, we celebrate gifts of diversity.

By Jesus Christ’s example, we welcome, in love, all who rejoice and worship with us.

God’s spirit, given by Christ, flows through us as living water to wash, heal, and satisfy.

As a congregation we become a fountain, sharing this living water with others.

*Please stand, in body or in spirit. Text printed in bold italics to be read in unison.

Prelude Chiming of the Hour Welcome

Introit ‘Tis the gift to be simple, ‘tis the gift to be free, ‘tis the gift to come down where we ought to be, And when we find ourselves in the place just right, ‘twill be in the valley of love and delight. When true simplicity is gained, to bow and to bend we shan’t be ashamed; To turn, turn will be our delight till by turning, turning, we come round right.

*Call to Worship (based on Psalm 63) Come, let us look upon God in the sanctuary; let us behold God’s power and glory. Let our lips praise the Lord, for God’s steadfast love is better than life. Let us bless the Lord and call on God’s name, for God has been our help. In the shadow of God’s wings, let us sing for joy and offer praise to God.

*Hymn 439 O My Soul, Bless Your Redeemer

*Call to Confession

*Prayer of Confession You set before us a rich feast of blessing, O God, but we are drawn to lesser things that cannot satisfy. Our ways are not your ways; our thoughts do not ascend to your thoughts. Forgive us when we fall short of your claim upon our lives. Disturb our complacency and quicken our desire for a more fruitful life. Be patient, we pray, as we amend who we are, so that we might become who you intend us to be. We ask this in the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

(time for silent confession) And let God’s people say: Amen.

*Assurance of Pardon

*The Peace of Christ Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us forgive one another. The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. And also with you. Let us share the peace of Christ with one another.

Sermon Now Would Be a Good Time Sharon Youngs

*Affirmation of Faith The Apostles’ Creed (traditional version)

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Call to Prayer When true simplicity is gained, to bow and to bend we shan’t be ashamed; To turn, turn will be our delight till by turning, turning, we come round right.

Prayers of the People - with The Lord’s Prayer (ecumenical version) Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

Please call the church office (483-1318) for audio recordings of the entire service.

WORSHIP NOTES

In today's service you will hear a familiar tune at

the introit and later during the prayers. Simple

Gifts is the best-known and best-loved of Shaker

tunes. It is found in no less that fifteen Shaker

manuscripts, and it is also part of the oral tradi-

tion, passed along along through singing rather

than writing. Turning and turning reminds us of

our Baptism, in which we turned around to em-

brace the One who is freedom, simplicity, and joy.

SERVICE OF PSALMS

Today at 5:00 p.m., the second in a trilogy of a

Service of Psalms will be held at First United

Methodist Church (FUMC). The service will

include Knoxville composer John Purifoy's

original settings of the psalms appointed for Lent,

sung by choirs of FPC, FUMC, Grace Lutheran

Church, and Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist

Church. Local pastors, including Sharon, will

offer brief reflections and prayers.
