from the Principal FEB 5 2014 Welcome back to the new school year for 2014! Coming up: This Friday is Teacher Only Day A reminder that this Friday is a Teacher Only Day. We are hosting a visiting facilitator who is working with our staff on our curriculum programme that supports thinking skill development, encourages student self management attributes and provides an engaging context for enriching the skills around literacy and numeracy. Meet the Teacher Night and community BBQ: Next Tuesday night is an opportunity for you to catch up with the two teachers who will be working with your child this year. We are running two sessions, 5-5.30 and 5.30 - 6pm. You will hear a little about our team teaching structure and some of the nuts and bolts around the classroom programme needs. Myross Bush School Athletics Day: This year we are running our own athletics day at Surrey Park as well as the Zone Sports day that is later in February. This opportunity will give all our children - from 5 year olds right through to 10 year olds - the chance to participate in all the athletic events (sprints, obstacle course & hurdles, High Jump, Long Jump, Shot & Discuss). This will be a fantastic community day and we look forward to seeing you there. Goal Setting Conference Nights: Please note that school will finish at 12.30pm on Tuesday 18 February with interviews starting at 1pm. Interviews on Wednesday 19 February start at 3.30pm. Information on how to book using the code WRBQF. It’s an easy process. Your 2014 Goal Setting conference is a great opportunity to focus on a new learning year for your child. It may be your first goal setting conference or it will be a chance to discuss the goals identified in your child's 2013 end of year report. Either way, it gives you the chance to set the foundation for the first half of the year with discussion between you, your child and your child's new teacher. It is an integral link between you, your child and school. Thank you for taking the time to be a part of this important process. Sports Notices: Please remember to check Paula's note over the page in todays newsletter and to check the website for up to date information on upcoming sporting events, both for school and individuals. Thanks to...I would also like to acknowledge the help and support from Gary and Michelle Fraser who were instrumental in getting the new sandpit up and going. Alistair and Leanne Morris who are making the new hothouse a reality inside the school grounds. Our new house and school value flags have been kindly donated by Fonterra with the support of Keith Mason who helped make that happen. Week 1 Term 1MATAI 9 (Mrs Polaschek & Mrs Lemin)We have had a lovely start to our new school year and we are really enjoying our new learning space! Come in and check it out if you haven't already. We welcome 5 new children and their families to our class this week- Ella, Charlee, Jack, Maebh and Lachie. They have all made a super start to school! We are finding out what 'goals' are this week, and are enjoying setting some goals for ourselves as we learn running, jumping and throwing skills for athletics.

MIRO 5 (Mrs Godby) & RATA 4 (Mrs Aurik)Welcome back to term one of 2014. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. It is great to see all the children coming to school with big smiles ready for learning. The children are all settling into their new class routines. A big thank you to all the children who have already returned their holiday reading books. If you have any stationary items still at home please send them along as we will need all the stationary to run our programme. A few children have not got sun hats at school, these are needed as summer has arrived at last! Named drink bottles are also important in this hot weather. It is helpful if the children come to school with gear suitable for athletics practice as we are getting ready for our school athletics day next Friday. I hope everyone has lovely long weekend with sunny weather.RegardsEvelyn and Natalie
