Bnai Yeshurun Comedy Night

Sunday, February 17th

Candle Lighting 5:01 A stand-up comedy show and dinner for only $25/person? Sounds like a mistake! It is. It’s only $18/person and the comedian is reputed to be really funny! Bnot’s Comedy Night is just a week away and reservations are strongly suggested.

Bnot President Chaya Schwartz is promising a “very enjoyable evening” for those attending the event on Sunday, February 17th, in our social hall. The buffet dinner will begin promptly at 7:30,

followed by comedian Eli Lebowicz at eight o’clock.

A standup comedian originally from Chicago, Lebowicz now lives in New York City. He started performing standup comedy while attending Yeshiva University. There, he won the school's annual standup comedy contest in 2009 and was the Co-Creator and Head Writer for The Quipster, Yeshiva University's first satire publication.

Since then, Eli has been performing at comedy clubs in New York City, college campuses along the East Coast, synagogue dinners, Passover programs, and Jewish events where there's food. Eli understands the challenges he will face performing at Bnai Yeshurun. First, he will be competing with a Rabbi who takes every opportunity to entertain our membership. Second, Eli recognizes that most members of his audience will be thinking, ”How can you expect me to laugh about your stupid observations when I’m paying tens of thousands of dollars in yeshiva tuition?”

“My material can get really deep into Jewish humor,” notes Lebowicz. “It’s not deep as in profound, but insider knowledge. While other comedians discuss airplane travel and the differences between Los Angeles and New York, I delve into very specific waters, wondering about potentially awkward moments in Tanach (like when an angel changes Jacob’s name to Israel, do you think Jacob said, “Okay, but I’m still gonna have to go by Jacob at the bank and doctor’s office”?).

Thanks to Chaya Schwartz and her team of Sara Grinfeld, Sora Grunstein, Miriam Kopel, Sari Sheinfeld and Aviva Vogel for planning and managing this event.

If you plan to attend, please register at BnaiYeshurun.org/BNOT until February 14th. After that and at the door, tickets will be $25/person. Sponsorships are available: $180 includes two tickets and 2nd tier seating. $360 includes four tickets and 1st tier VIP seating.
