Thursday February 13, 2020

6:30pm in Saint Michael Parish Hall

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

With Valentine’s Day this Friday, the Church observes

this week as National Marriage Week. The theme

chosen for this year’s observance is “Stories from the

Domestic Church.”

When the Church speaks about the “Domestic

Church,” it’s talking about the home and the family.

Remember that Church – with a capital ‘C’ – refers to

the People of God, rather than when we speak of the

church – with a lowercase ‘c’ – a sacred space in which

God’s People come together for worship. The

Domestic Church is not just a nice idea; truly, it’s in

the home, and in the context of a familial relationship

in which the faith gets handed down to the next

generation. The priest or deacon says as much in the

blessing of the father in the Order of Baptism of Children:

May the Lord God Almighty,

the giver of life both in heaven and on earth,

bless the father of this child,

so that, together with his wife,

they may, by word and example,

prove to be the first witnesses of the faith to their

child,

in Christ Jesus our Lord.

During this National Marriage Week, let us commit

ourselves to praying for those who are preparing for

marriage, those who are married, those who are

struggling in marriage, and for all families to come to

know Christ Jesus in their homes, where He dwells

and makes them holy. Also, please visit the website of

the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops

(www.usccb.org) for more information about this

week, and for helpful resources for your marriage.

Your brother in Christ,

Reverend Scott S. Woods

Pastor

The next Baptismal Preparation class will be Sunday February 9th at St. Mary’s after the 9am Mass, in the dining room of the Parish Office building. If you would like to attend class contact either parish office, before Feb. 7th so we can be prepare for the correct amount of people coming.
