She has worked there since 2009 and her main responsibility is to share knowledge about the natural resources we have in the state of Wisconsin. Liz’s presentation on the History, Ecology and Management of Horicon Marsh will chronicle the fascinating story of how, over time, Horicon Marsh was completely destroyed and then painstakingly re-built to its present condition. You will hear how people have impacted this fragile ecosystem both past and present. Dear Civic Leaguers: What a great way to start off our Winter program season with the Portage Police K9 Unit. Sgt. Newmann and “Officer Areas” were delightful. Not only did we learn about what they do to protect our community, but we also saw Areas in action as he greeted the members. Never have I seen so many smiles, questions, and delight from the audience. Thank you, K9 Unit, for sharing with the Civic League. We look forward to learning more about the Horicon Marsh at our February meeting and how to stay healthy in March. You don’t want to miss these events. This is a good time to reflect on what we do as the Civic League and to ask the larger question of whether we are doing all that we can to be the best at what we do. How can we better serve our members? Are there issues and concerns we need to address? What about our role in the larger community? Are we meeting our obligations in a caring and pro-active way? Take a moment to reflect on what Civic League means to you, and what you might like to see us do more of or better. Please share your thoughts with me or any member of the Board. This is YOUR organization. Thank you and stay warm, Betty Kutzke
