Thank You,

Did you have a meaningful time with your family to make your

New Year’s resolutions? Our church members and I already took

time to make our resolutions on the First Sunday of 201 3. I f you

have not yet taken time to make your resolution, please take time

for you and your family, and then try to practice it. I t wil l make

your l ife different for 201 3. I hope you wil l achieve everything that

you wish and expect in the grace and guidance of God.

This year, we wil l meet the Lenten Season more early than

last year. Lent is a time of spiritual journey for forty days when we

reflect ourselves and experience God’s amazing grace and

providence as the people of God. In the Bible, the forty days was

the period of spiritual journey to reveal God’s grace and love

through Eli jah, Moses, Noah, Jonah, and Jesus Christ. Before

Jesus Christ was crucified on the cross, he experienced many

events: the Last Supper with the disciples, the betrayal of Judas,

the prayer of Gethsemane, desertion of the disciples, the denial of

Peter, the torture and humil iation of the king, the Crucifixion, and

final ly the Resurrection. Undoubtedly, the spiritual journey for

forty days is the way of the cross with suffering and pain for us.

However, at the same time it is the way of glory, grace, and

victory. I would l ike to share an inspirational story by an unknown

author with you because it might give us a glance about the

meaning of Lent.

“There l ived a girl , cal led Jane who loves a doll . One day,

when an uncle visited her home, she showed her dolls and was

proud of her dolls. Suddenly, the uncle asked her, “Jane, which is

the best dol l among them for you?” She was in deep thought with

the question. After a while, she said to the uncle, “I wil l show you

my favorite doll . But you promise me: when I display my favorite

doll to you, you never laugh. I t sounded strange, but he promised

that. When Jane got out of her room, she took a worn-out dol l

which fel l apart, two arms and a leg. The uncle asked to her

careful ly, “Jane, this is your favorite doll . I t’s beautiful . But, I am

wondering about why do you like this dol l?” Jane answered, “I

knew you felt strange. However, if I do not love this dol l , there is

no one who loves this dol l . So, I love this dol l . ”

Why does Jesus Christ come to the world? I t is because

Jesus Christ loves us, even though we are worn-out dol ls which

have many dirty scars and stains due to our sins and selfishness.

Therefore, we could experience the grace of being born again and

became the children of God because of his sacrificial love and

grace. I t is the power of the cross by Jesus Christ, our Savior, as

well as undeserved and unmerited grace from God. No matter

what, whether you walk with Jesus in your l ife or not for forty days,

our time wil l pass just the same. May you not only meditate on

Jesus Christ for forty days due to your difficult situations and

circumstance, but alsobecause of your hope and assurance in Him.

I eagerly hope Jesus Christ, who gave the new

life and hope to you, is in your mind, thinking,

and life for this Lenten Season. †
