MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

100th DAY

What an exciting month we had at P.S. 112. Our Black History celebration was a success and our Winter Break was well deserved. Our students have been working so hard to prepare themselves for the upcoming state exams.

THE FIFTH GRADE VISITED ST. JOHN’S UNIVERSITY

THIRD GRADERS

CONTINUE THEIR

JOURNEY TO AFRICA

When Ms. Graham came in to speak

to the 3rd grade, she shared a lot about

Nigeria. She was excellent. She was

wearing beautiful, colorful Nigerian

Clothes. She had lots of pictures of

Nigeria, like the beaches, different

ladies with pots on their head and

many more. The Nigerian flag is green,

white and green. The green part

represents farming and the white part

represents peace. The 3rd grade

enjoyed listening to Ms. Graham. The

best part was when she dressed Mrs.

Lundenberg and Mrs. Webb (Ms. Barsa)

as queens and princesses.

Jasper Robbins Class 212

The fifth grade classes went St. John’s University to

see the Women’s Basketball Team play. We had so much fun. First we played games as if we were in the army and we practiced cheerleading. When the game began

we were all cheering: “DEFENSE... DEFENSE!” St. John’s Basketball team won! GO ST. JOHN’S!

BLACK HISTORY CELEBRATION P.S.112 celebrated Black History once again with great enthusiasm.

Many classes participated in the celebration. Ms. Bone’s class 3/4-211 sang “Oh Freedom”, Ms. Rivera and Mrs. Di Angelo’s class K-103 sang “Freedom, Freedom Let it Ring” “Mar-tin Lu-ther King”, Mr. Murray’s class 4-314 sang “Lift Every Song and Sing”, Mr Thomaschek and class 4-312 read “Letters to Dr. Meriwether”, Ms. Farrah’s Dance Class danced and City Year/ Ms. Millz and the Performing Arts Club did a Step and Rap Routine.

FLASHMASTER!READ ALL ABOUT IT

Flashmaster was introduced to our class 5-316 a few weeks ago.I find flashmaster a great “game” to help all of us learn our addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts. So far Mrs. Maimos introduced this devise to the fifth graders but it’s for everyone. Flashmaster is like a teacher. It guides you to get answers.I really enjoy playing Flashmaster because some of the skills are timed, so I really have to think fast.Teron Wright 5-316

21ST CENTURY CORNER PERIWINKLE LITERACY, SCIENCE

& TECHNOLOGY

The LST after school group is busy conducting experiments with electricity. The children then are writing about them in their blogs. Every Wednesday is chatroom day. We talk about the experiments in our own private chatroom. With the school science fair coming up, we are busy thinking about how we will showcase what we are doing in the class with the rest of the school.

GAME 24 CHESS

Over the past month, boys from the 4th and 5th grade classes have met every Thursday for Chess

Club. In chess, the boys learn how to think critically while learning the game of chess. “It’s a

great club for learning strategies”,says Joshua Gabriel of class 4-314. This club gives the boys a

chance to bond with one another. “That is probably the best part of it all”, says Mr. Murray,

the instructor of the club.Checkmate!

Game 24 is really very exciting. We have really improved our math skills. We are very excited that our team is in first place statewide for a number of months and 7th nationwide.

We play when we meet three times per week but also when we get home after we finish our homework. The more we play the better place position. This a message for the 3rd and 4th graders: You should really consider being part of the Game 24 team next year. It is so much fun!Mohammed Ahmed 5-319Ahmed Rahi 5-316

On February 3rd, I.D.E.A.S. Drama Club had a successful production of “Miss Nelson is Missing.” Memorizing lines, learning blocking and the importance of projection, are just some of the things the students discovered by doing the play. They will be learning even more this spring and can’t wait to start their new show. Details for the June production coming soon. Ms. Cherish
