Whether you’re 15 or 50, we’ve all wanted

to do it. Run away, escape our everyday,

live someone else’s life for a while. Why do

you long for escape? Boredom, the same-

old, same-old everyday, a need to take a

break from your daily reality fo

r just a little

while. And some of us do it, at 15 or 50,

for a little or a lo

ng while, and sometimes

we become better people for having done

so. We daydream about the lives we could

have lived or could be living right now, we

imagine the surprises a new place or a new

life could bring. This longing for something

different, new, better, strange...thankfully can

be fed by travel away fro

m home for just a

little while instead of burning all the bridges

and starting a new life over somewhere else.

Sometimes, all we need is a d

ifferent view, a

new perspective, new faces and places and

experiences. It’s so easy to

buy a ticket, hop

on a plane, and feed your inner runaway in a

matter of hours. Being away from the things

we take for granted—like family, frie

nds, your

lovely neighborhood, or your comfy bed—

makes us appreciate them even more. Travel

makes you a better person, says Science,

and we’re in on it. You can step outside

of your comfort zone, learn new things,

new cultures, new languages, and all of the

above makes our brains more active, which

increases our level of happiness better than

any prescription from your family doc. Away

from home, we get the breathing space that

we often lose in our day-to-day doldrums.

We don’t have to check our social channels

and email, and we can take pictures that we

don’t post to Instagram because this is o

ur

experience. We can share later. We have

the freedom to enjoy being in the moment,

being truly present, and that is the gift o

ur

little runaway is really lo

oking for. And at the

end of our travels, nothing feels better than

coming back home.

In 2011, I was standing in the wedding of the 7th couple I had set up on a

blind date. I looked at my husband and said, “I want to start a matchmak-

ing business... no online profiles, no pictures... just get people in front of

each other.” I started this elite matchmaking service introducing successful

singles through relaxed, group wine tastings in upscale venues or through

one-on-one introductions. Named Mt. Pleasant Magazine’s “Best Place

to Meet Singles in Person” for two years, I am thankful for my incredible

clients and I look forward to many more successful introductions.
