Dear Members, I am happy to announce that the City of Aiken has started the silt removal project on Dogwood # 8 and we are already a week ahead of schedule. This project should take several days to complete barring any unforeseen issues. Once the silt is piled for removal and dries, our maintenance staff intends to use the silt for several tee box renovations. The holes for tee box renovations will include: Azalea #3, Dogwood #5 and Dogwood #9. Our goal is to extend/lengthen several of the aforementioned teeing grounds to alleviate any unfair advantage between fellow competitors com- peting from different teeing areas. These renovations will also allow our staff to rotate the tee markers so we can mitigate compaction from rounds played. The new drive/walk bridge on Azalea #2 is now complete and fully opera- tional and it looks fantastic. Our maintenance crew did an outstanding job designing and installing the walk bridge while using recycled materials from other on-course projects. Tree removal has begun and will continue until all tree related issues are resolved. Some issues from trees include, but are not limited to: nutrient/ water competition, shade, air circulation, disease, and root damage to cart paths. These issues are not unique to Houndslake, but to all courses with trees. Tree removal is a process that all courses have to manage and it will be an ongoing preventative maintenance practice that needs to be done to maintain quality turf grass throughout the property. Lastly, I’d like to say thank you for all of the support Aimee and I have received since we submitted our resignations to Houndslake Country Club. I am proud of all the staff members and their accomplishments and I am honored to have had the opportunity to serve as your General Manager.
