THE CIRCUIT RIDER

Vol. 15, No. 2

February 2015

FROM THE PASTOR My new friends at Chamberlayne Heights,

It has been a joy to “fill in”. By the me I get to know most of you, you will be

ge!ng to know another “fill in”. But keep the faith! God will bring good from the

ups and downs of the last few months.

I want to commend you as a Body of Christ. You have shown me great strength

and resilience since I have been among you. Your self-sufficiency will, no doubt, get

you through the next few months and will be a huge benefit when your new pastor

is appointed in June. I can honestly say that the person sent to you is in for a

rewarding ministry. CHUMC has so very much potenal. You have spacious, well-

kept facilies, generous support from the membership, both financial and spiritual

and a genuine hunger for leadership.

In my ministry I found that an open and honest relaonship between pastor and

congregaon grew into excing and rewarding outreach. You have demonstrated

to me your willingness to accept new and different leadership. This openness will

serve you well.

I have personally known CHUMC and many of its members for a number of years.

Serving on the district with several of your former pastors gave me insight to the

church. Your place in the community is secure and will benefit from your efforts to

reach out to those around the corner as well as those across the world. We United

Methodists are very good at both!

If I haven’t met you yet, hopefully I will. I try to spend some A.M. me in the

office on Tuesday and Wednesday (I don’t play golf). Stop by and visit; I would love

to get to know you. I am reachable at most any me in the event of an emergency

or crisis. Don’t hesitate to call on me. My cell number is

804-513-3421.

May God connue to bless you and yours. Unl next me, I am . . .

In His service,

Bill

"At 109, bishop’s widow has lived life of adventure

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UMNS) – Louise Baird Short, widow of Bishop Roy Short, loves

The United Methodist Church and she loves travel. Short, who has attended every

General Conference since 1959, celebrates her 109th birthday on Saturday, Jan. 17. In

a profile for the Tennessean, the oldest living bishop’s spouse – also older than any

bishop – reflects on a life of travel and ministry.

Garden Pavers The Memorial Garden at Chamberlayne Heights United Methodist Church established in memory of Ruth Armour by her family.

Here’s an opportunity for you to purchase a brick paver(s) in memory of a loved one. The brick

paver will be inscribed with the name and date of someone you would like to remember. The cost of the pavers:

2 lines with 12 Characters per line (counting spaces) $125.00 3 lines with 12 Characters per line (counting spaces) $135.00

Order forms are available in the narthex or from the church office. Also, contact the church office, Joyce Paschall or Phin Wood with your questions or for additional information. Plans are being

made now to lay new brick pavers with inscription. This is a special way to remember those we love and those who have loved CHUMC during their lifetime.

"We have raised a little over $4,000

through scrap metal and cans." – Jason Burghart, a member of First United

Methodist Church in Windsor, Colorado, speaking of the church’s fund-raising for

clean water projects around the world.

Together, we ‘can’ change the world

WINDSOR, Colo. (UMNS) – After participating in a forum about the lack of

global access to clean water, Jason and Kelly Burghart helped First United

Methodist Church start a metal recycling

program. From a single can to larger cars and appliances, every piece of metal

makes money that the church gives to WASH, the water, sanitation and hygiene

program of the United Methodist

Family Night Dinner

Because February is such an iffy weather month, we have decided to have a covered dish dinner. This means, of course, that each of us will have to test our

culinary skills in the kitchen to dream up a dish that will whet the taste buds. This amazing event will occur on the first Wednesday in February, 2/4/15, at 6:00pm.

To make it even more amazing, a young woman named Emma-Marie Dulog will share her musical skills by presenting us with a concert on the Harp.. I love the

Harp. It is soothing and makes one introspective.

Emma has been playing the harp for five years, has performed in venues such as

The Kennedy Center and Tully Hall Lincoln Center in New York City. Emma is currently a member of the American Youth Harp Ensemble.

So - - please join us for an evening filled with music, fun, good conversation and

the delicious food you will bring to share. Make your reservation by filling out the orange slip in your bulletin or call the church office by noon on Monday. It will be

good to share this evening with you.

Grace upon grace, Martha Sherrod

THE SENIOR CONNECTION PRESENTS “THE JOY OF FLYING’

Join us February 10 as our own Owen Brodie shares his love (some would say obsession) with airplanes and flying. A pilot since 1974, Owen will tell us some

science behind flight, some history and some personal recollections of adventures in his “bird,” a single engine Cessna. Join us for a covered dish lunch

at noon, followed by the program at 1pm. Visitors are always welcome, so bring a friend.
