STADARD 3 The Teaching and Learning Group got together and decided to inform our District family of what we as faculty

and staff do for our students' learning.

*Teachers list the courses they teach in their lesson plans

*We reinforce core curriculum by (to name a few)

--MAPS Math and Reading

--Brain Pop and Brain Pop, Jr.

--Times Attack

--Study Island

--Learn 360

--online textbook sites

--Nebraska Career Connections

--video clips and tours

--presentations of their works or by outside source speakers

--writing their own books

--Starfall

--Education City

--PBS Kids

--Discovery and National Geographic sources

--hands-on activities

*National Standards for library and copy of 21st Century Learning Standards and State Standards (NeSA)

*Scope and Sequence for each subject

*Curriculum on the Wall

STADARD 5 Using Results for Continuous Improvement The committee for this standard is called the data team. We are in charge of gathering all of the data,

organizing the data into charts and graphs, and then using the date to improve our school.

We have five indicators to prove that we are proficient at our standard. The indicators are as follows:

Indicator 5.1 The school establishes and maintains a clearly defined and comprehensive student assessment

system.

-We currently have these assessments in place: MAPS (3 times a year) for grades K-11, NESA (the Nebraska

State Assessment) for grades 3-6,8,11, and Aimsweb reading and math for grades K-6.

Indicator 5.2 Professional and support staff continuously collect, analyze, and apply learning from a range of

data sources, including comparison and trend data about student learning, instruction, program evaluation, and

organizational conditions.

-The data committee is getting together to analyze and look for trends in the data so that we can create an action

plan for school improvement. After the action plan is created, we will be relaying the information to other

professional and support staff at our school.

Indicator 5.3 Professional and support staff are trained in the evaluation, interpretation, and use of data.

-Many of the data team members have been to multiple trainings on how to use, evaluate, and interpret data.

Indicator 5.4 The school engages in a continuous process to determine verifiable improvement in student

learning, including readiness for and success at the next level. ----The committee is currently in the process of

creating an action plan to improve our student learning.

Indicator 5.5 Leadership monitors and communicates comprehensive information about student learning,

conditions that support student learning, and the achievement of school improvement goals to stakeholders.

-The committee is in charge of relating what we learned from the data to create an action plan on how to

improve our school.

~Mrs. Simpson~

Happy 2013! It’s hard to believe a New Year is upon us. The last few months of school have

flown by.

As we begin the New Year, we have made snowmen, sang many Nursery Rhymes and are learning

about our helpers in our community. Dinosaurs are on their way, as well as Dr. Seuss.

I am looking forward to a great year. We wish everyone a happy and healthy New Year.

Junior High Woodworking 2nd

Quarter

The 7A section of Junior High spent the last nine weeks learning about the importance of

trees to our society, the measuring systems, woodworking hand tools and the safety rules

associated with the hand tools used in the woodworking profession. They also learned the

basic steps of the finishing process used by woodworkers.

The second half of the quarter was spent in the woodworking laboratory on the construction

of a bird house. The students used the woodworking hand tools to measure, lay-out and cut

the components of their bird houses. They then assembled and painted their bird houses.

Boys Basketball

The basketball season is in full effect now. We just finished a stretch of four games in eight days. We were

very competitive in each game, and we are a much better basketball team coming out of this week. We have a

very young team this year. All the players on the team have either one or two years of experience playing

basketball in high school. Despite that we have been competitive in every game we played this year. Next

week we have the Lewis and Clark Conference tournament, and the week after we have our last three games.

We end the year against Cedar Bluffs at home on February 9th, which is a game that got rescheduled from

December due to the weather. Thank you to everyone that supports Blujay basketball. It is great to see

everyone at all the games.

Coach Heller

The Walthill boys Junior High basketball team finished another successful season with a 5-2

record. The team defeated Emerson-Hubbard, Santee, and Bancroft in the regular season.

They boys won the Homer Tournament for the third year in a row by defeating Wakefield and

Homer. Their two losses were to Winnebago (by 4 in OT) and Macy(by only 2).

Finishing the season for the Blujays were Tavion Brown, Benjamin Lovejoy, Horace Kemp, Tru

Gonzalez, Harry Sheridan, Tyler Lovejoy, Grayden Hallowell, Gabe Aldrich and Ma-Na-Zhee-Ga

Cleveland. The boys were coached by Gary Redden and Glen Randel.

The Walthill girls Junior High basketball team has ended their season with a 5-1 record. Our

only loss was late in the season against Bancroft-Rosalie. Our victories were over Omaha

Nation, Winnebago (twice), Santee and Emerson-Hubbard. We had a very young team this

year, with only 2 of our 12 finishing players being 8th

graders. We are very proud of our girls!

The Lady Jays were coached by Chris Swanson and Kira Swinton.
