Events-1

• Participation at the Forum of China and African Ministers of Culture (FOCAC), Beijing, China, June 18-19, 2012.

• Participated in the 19th Session of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) General Assembly, Gyeounju, Korea, November 2011.

• Won hosting rights for the 53rd Meeting of the UNWTO Commission for Africa (CAF). Successfully hosted at the Tinapa Business, Conference and Leisure Resort, Calabar, Cross River State, from 25th – 27th June, 2012.

• In attendance: the UNWTO Secretary-General, Dr. Talib Rifai, officials from UNWTO Headquarters in Madrid, Spain, Ministers of Tourism from 19 African countries, Private sector stakeholders, the Civil Society and NGOs.

Events-2

• Hosting of UNESCO by CBAAC – Slave Routes Project with delegates from 15 countries, Calabar, Cross River, in March, 2012. Organized International Conference on ‘Slave Trade and Slavery in the Arab World: Untold Tragedy and Shared Heritage’ – Calabar, March 2012.

• Celebration of Nigeria Week in Brazil, September 5-7, 2011. • Abuja Carnival 2011. • 5th African Arts and Crafts Expo (AFAC) held in Eagle

Square, Abuja, 1st – 14thJune, 2012. • Traditional Rulers Conference organized from June 7-8,

2012 in Abuja

Critical Capital Development

Private sector driven infrastructural development that will change the city skyline and provide the required tourism and entertainment facilities in the FCT.• Development of the Ultra-Modern World Trade

Centre, the Abuja Town Centre• Development of the Jabi Lake Comprehensive

Centre• Development of the Centenary City • Development of the Land Swap Districts.

Resuscitation and funding of the long abandoned Gogaram annual fishing festival

Funding of the Machina annual cultural festival in Yobe state.

GuraraThe N54.3bn Gurara Dam project was altered to include the 34 megawatts hydro-power plant which has been completed and a 4,000 hectare irrigation project.

The multipurpose dam will boost the tourism potential of surrounding communities.

Other Highlights

• Developed Tourism Master plan for Nigeria and inaugurated an Implementation Committee on the plan.

• Development of the Management Plan for Nigeria’s first World Heritage Site at Sukur, Adamawa State.

• Award/Decoration of First Lady, Dame (Dr.) Patience Jonathan, as Nigeria’s tourism ambassador.

• Reorientation and Promotion of Value – unveiling of the slogan ‘Do The Right Thing – Transform Nigeria’ in May 2012.

• Production of TV documentaries on the Government’s Transformation Agenda, including one on ‘100 Days of President Goodluck Jonathan’
