Big Alʼs Golf DayAnother fundraising event was the annual golf dayat Newbold Comyn Golf Course, with a barbecueback at the Club, organised by Big Al. This yearover £340 was raised for Cancer Research.

Congratulations to Radford Semele FCWell done to RSFC who, despite finishing bottom ofthe Leamington & District Sunday Football LeagueDivision, still managed to bring some silverwareʻhomeʼ. After defeating several of their ʻarch rivalsʼto get to the Final, they beat Mid-WarwickshirePolice 2-1 at the Stockton Town Piece on 11th May2014. In celebration, I believe, they embarked ontheir end of season fancy dress cycle ride, whichwould certainly have caused some startled looksfrom motorists, pedestrians and boaters as theywent between licensed establishments. With nottoo many injuries received en route training willhave started by now on a Wednesday night andany players wishing to join can contact, TerryDavidson, 07794 734015, who will be assistingDave Burns in the management duties. The seasonis set to get underway on 31st August 2014.

Regulars (Groups and Teams)Sunday BingoA number of ladies use the TV Room on Sundayevenings for several rounds of Bingo between7pm – 9pm. Just £5 buys 6 books, with a ʻflyerʼfor the final game, all giving you the chance towin a selection of grocery prizes. A relaxedevening and the chance for a sociable chat whilethe husband/family is left to do the washing-upfrom the Sunday roast.

Poker nights on TuesdaysOn Tuesday evenings, from 8pm a group of cardplayers use the Club for an evening of Poker inthe TV Room. The group play for points and atthe end of each month the top 2 with the mostpoints are awarded a cash prize. Anybodywishing to join the group can just pop down andtry their hand, sometimes there are just four orfive people around the table, other times we mayhave to think of getting the second table out.

Seniorsʼ Group – first Wednesday of themonthYou donʼt have to be of a ʻseniorʼ age anymore,as a way of attracting some young ̒ tottyʼ or extraʻeye candyʼ you now only need to be over 55!The established Seniors will soon be enjoying atrip to Millets Farm, Frilford, Oxfordshire inSeptember, although Iʼm afraid the coach isalready fully booked. However, if you want tosee what else the Group will be getting up to feelfree to come along for a leisurely drink and chaton the first Wednesday of each month. TheGroup has the Club to themselves from 12 noon– 2pm.

ʻServingʼ the Community HallIf youʼre planning a function in the CommunityHall and require bar facilities, why not considerusing the Clubʼs instead of organising atemporary bar to be set-up in the Hall? It justneeds somebody to be a member of the Cluband allow us a little time to organise the speciallicence, 10 working days, the only charge beinga 50p signing-in fee, per guest who are notmembers. Membership forms are always available from thebar and with an annual membership fee of just£5 (£10 for the first year) you will soon recoupthis cost with the cheap bar prices.

IN THE PIPELINEJust a couple of events to mention at the momentas we wait for the new Committee Members toʻfind their feetʼ;

Martin Burtʼs 65th Birthday – 11th OctoberItʼs our resident musoʼs birthday in October andhe will be swapping the bar stool for his drumstool once more as he celebrates anotherbirthday with a few fellow musicians. No doubtthere will be members of his two bands, TheLikely Lads and The Firm, to help him celebrate,but you can also bet that there will be a lot morefrom the local areaʼs music scene. If you enjoymusic this will be a night not to be missed,guaranteed brilliant entertainment.

Halloween Party – 1st NovemberOne of the busiest afternoons/night of the yearwhen children get to take the club over for a hugevariety of games, fancy dress competitions fordifferent age groups, maybe for adults as well.Nothing has been confirmed yet, but you can besure something will be organised, keep an eyeopen for the posters closer to the time.

Football season beginsThe football season is about to start so I mustremind you of the 120” screen we have. With oursubscriptions to both Sky Sports and BT Sport stillin place and two separate Sky boxes there is anoption to watch different sports or matchesbetween the main room and the ʻTV Roomʼ. Withthe football starting the weekly Super 7ʼsprediction game will begin again, if I recall the ̒ potʼcurrently stands at approx £40, predict a Home orAway win or draw of the seven chosen matches towin the pot, or a share of it.

Spally Quiz No.2/2014The second quiz of the year was held in May, inaid of Jean Elliott and Barbara Curtlinʼsfundraising for Women V Cancer. The pair areabout to undertake a 450km cycle ride aroundChina, in September, for three cancer charities;Joʼs Cervical Cancer Trust, Breast Cancer Careand Ovarian Cancer Action. With QuizmasterSpallyʼs efforts the Club were able to help raise afurther £360 towards their cause and we wishthem well on their adventure next month.

An Evening at the Races x2Two evenings at the races have been held overthe last 3 months, firstly Warwick Races, in May,courtesy of Molson Coors supplying a handful oftickets. Unfortunately, rain (remember that stuff?(At the time of going to print anyway!)) put paid toa top eveningʼs entertainment when the meetinghad to be abandoned after just 2 races. Secondly,a coach trip was organised to the dog racing atHall Green, Birmingham. £25 per person goteverybody the coach, two free drinks and a threecourse meal, the only additional outlay was forextra drinks and the betting – excellent value!
