CHALKYFeeling

Chalk-Finish Paint{CREAT IVE INSP IRAT IONS FROM HOBBY LOBBY®}free

Pair a chalky finish with just a little sparkle, and you’ve got matte gone glam. We painted these bare wooden letters ivory. And then the magic: We applied a mixture of decoupage

medium and glitter to the sides.

QUICK DECOR CHANGE:

Paint your standard-issue wall stuff.

SENSE OF SPELL

Believe it or not, this storage piece was rocking a rustic wood look. The flip: Chalk-finish paint’s unique matte finish made it colorful, not clownish. By the way, we painted over

the hardware—this paint loves metal.

For worn-to-perfection charm, apply sandpaper (fine grit works best) to your completed project. Try concentrating on areas where natural wear would occur, at the corners and on the edges.

BY THE BOX

Does found art speak to your heart? Chalk-finish paint is a great way to soften the look of utility materials like metal or rubber. Bicycle-wheel clock:

FINE TIME

Use a zip tie to secure the clock mechanism to the wheel.

Drill a hole in a metal jar lid and place it over the mechanism, gluing to secure—the prong for the clock hands should poke through the hole.

Paint the entire piece before installing the hands and adding the numbers.

Since chalk-finish paint doesn’t require sanding or priming, it’s ideal for fast upcyles. We did zero prep on this antique-y console table. The details:

four coats of ivory, a damask stencil and brown creme wax.

Shiny surfaces (like glass, metal or plastic) won’t faze this paint, so you can get your color on with any decor that floats your boat. We went for glass bottles—we glued on metal embellishments after the paint dried.

GLASS ACT

Dual color is key to this happily distressed decor. Spray on contrasting paints—be sure to let the project dry between colors. Then apply sandpaper wherever you want the bottom hue to show through.
