The recent burning of sugar- houses in the parishes of St. Mary and Iberia bae. been the cause of much excitement and the occasion. of conalderablo speculation as to the origin and portent of the PIove moet. That this has occurred at a moment of profound peace and quietude, when there was no excit- ing qneation or isane between the raes to .roos the pas.MOB or In- cite to aots of vlolece : when the blacks were apparently in a condi- lion and dispeeition to order, gu6d behavior and obedience to law, gives it the appearance ofa cool. premeditated and organized at. tempt at a goneral system of incen- dierisan that sboald be thoroughly investigated and thwarted by sum- mary measures. Is It not the oat- growth of the teachings of K.l- UIbEg Packard, el id oPni ge.us ? The foilowing partionulars we ga ther from the X. 0. Democrat: Capt. Alex. Moses, *he well- known insurance adjuster, arrived in the city last evening by ilthe 5 o'c'oek Morgan railroad train from the Teehe. Upon learning of the arrival of Captain Mses, a sm- ocrat reporter immediately started at in quest of that gentleman, and after a lengthy tramp our reporter managed to gaain an interview with him at the cub of which to is a member, on Canal street. PARTICULARS OF TH• FIB•E as related by Cnpt. Monse. who was an eye witness to the afairs. I was a passenger on board the steamer Mary Lewis, and the boat was behind time at Cyplemort landing, when it was discoererd that a large fire was reging above- Upon makirg a landing weaoeer rained that tile sogarihouse of Mr. Faye was in flamea, and that the building had beeoon entirely con- enamed, the only tiring remaining being the porgery, which wa saved by the help of tho crew of the Mary Lewis. At twelve o'clock the same night Mr. Emile Bil ao came riding up and halted the boat, very much ex cited, (Mr. Emile Sillau's sugar- houne is situated near Mo0gan City,) and ibformed us that *lis place had been set on firo by a gang of incendiarie,. who were all colored nien. Mr. Sillan disyov. ering tlo confligration in lime, did not suffer much damagei . hbaing put the fire out with (ie help of a few neighbors. O. iroceedig up the.bayai far- ther, we were hailed rcin sliarer Ly an unknown man. who stated tnLt ihe sugar-hiuse of Mr. Graveuburag had been fired, and that the loss could not be les- than $15,000.- Had it not been for tie timely as. sistance of the crew of our boat, tie entire place would have been consumed Proceeding up the bayou still fr her, we no:ticed that flames were is-Oing from the sugar house of Mr. Bassey, situated just beyond Morgan City. Upon landing we immediately repaired to Mr Bue- sey's ngar-oifuse and broke open the place. Upon entering the houe we be- gan to inoestigate the place, and lo and one of the sugar-juice bose- filled with pine wood saturated with coal oil, and on fire. Patling out the fire, and informiug the inoates of che incendiary attempt, we pro- weeded on our trip, stoppinrig at every sugar-house e wete and i- forinig" the planters of the raias just related above, w rmnlg them to beware ot the negro incoadia- ries who bad begun their work in that portion of the country. THE SPITT OF ICEMD1ARIWM.

The recent burning of sugar-houses in the parishes of St. Maryand Iberia bae. been the cause of

much excitement and the occasion.of conalderablo speculation as tothe origin and portent of the PIove

moet. That this has occurred at a

moment of profound peace andquietude, when there was no excit-ing qneation or isane between the

raes to .roos the pas.MOB or In-cite to aots of vlolece : when the

blacks were apparently in a condi-lion and dispeeition to order, gu6dbehavior and obedience to law, gives it the appearance ofa cool.premeditated and organized at.tempt at a goneral system of incen-dierisan that sboald be thoroughlyinvestigated and thwarted by sum-mary measures. Is It not the oat-growth of the teachings of K.l-

UIbEg Packard, el id oPni ge.us ?The foilowing partionulars we gather from the X. 0. Democrat:

Capt. Alex. Moses, *he well-known insurance adjuster, arrivedin the city last evening by ilthe 5o'c'oek Morgan railroad train fromthe Teehe. Upon learning of thearrival of Captain Mses, a sm-

ocrat reporter immediately startedat in quest of that gentleman, and

after a lengthy tramp our reportermanaged to gaain an interview withhim at the cub of which to is amember, on Canal street.

as related by Cnpt. Monse. whowas an eye witness to the afairs.

I was a passenger on board thesteamer Mary Lewis, and the boatwas behind time at Cyplemortlanding, when it was discoererdthat a large fire was reging above-Upon makirg a landing weaoeerrained that tile sogarihouse of Mr.Faye was in flamea, and that thebuilding had beeoon entirely con-enamed, the only tiring remainingbeing the porgery, which wa savedby the help of tho crew of theMary Lewis.

At twelve o'clock the same nightMr. Emile Bil ao came riding upand halted the boat, very much excited, (Mr. Emile Sillau's sugar-houne is situated near Mo0ganCity,) and ibformed us that *lisplace had been set on firo by agang of incendiarie,. who were allcolored nien. Mr. Sillan disyov.ering tlo confligration in lime, didnot suffer much damagei . hbaingput the fire out with (ie help of afew neighbors.

O. iroceedig up the.bayai far-ther, we were hailed rcin sliarer Lyan unknown man. who stated tnLtihe sugar-hiuse of Mr. Graveuburag

had been fired, and that the losscould not be les- than $15,000.-Had it not been for tie timely as.sistance of the crew of our boat, tie entire place would have beenconsumed

Proceeding up the bayou stillfr her, we no:ticed that flameswere is-Oing from the sugar houseof Mr. Bassey, situated just beyondMorgan City. Upon landing weimmediately repaired to Mr Bue-sey's ngar-oifuse and broke openthe place.

Upon entering the houe we be-gan to inoestigate the place, andlo and one of the sugar-juice bose-filled with pine wood saturated withcoal oil, and on fire. Patling outthe fire, and informiug the inoatesof che incendiary attempt, we pro-weeded on our trip, stoppinrig at

every sugar-house e wete and i-forinig" the planters of the raiasjust related above, w rmnlg themto beware ot the negro incoadia-ries who bad begun their work inthat portion of the country.
