Rummage Sale Reflections (Spring 2018) Perhaps you are wondering what it is like to participate in our church rummage sales. Think of the phrase “It takes a village” and apply that to the immense job it is to hold our church rummage sale. Each “villager” is needed with their particular skills and we welcome you to help out with the next rummage sale. It is scheduled for September 8-15. Here is a behind the scenes look at how it works: Saturday-set up tables and move rummage from storage areas to the hall; begin unpacking until 1:00 p.m. Sunday-day of rest (?); OR if those who work week day jobs would like to donate some time, we could set up a 2-3 hour sorting day on Sunday, too :-) Monday and Tuesday-unpack all bags and boxes; hang up dresses, coats and the like; organize books, shoes, purses, toys, stuffed animals, crafts, linens and towels, knick knacks, kitchen items, vases, cups and glasses, and we also have 2-4 tables of better items that we display near the front. Set up and test small appliances; separate men’s, women’s and children’s clothing; and place large items in the halls. Wednesday-price items and put out signage. Start making sloppy joe and shop for other smalls items that will be sold in the little cafe. Pricing and re-packaging of donated baked goods is done at 6:00 p.m. Thursday-Open the doors at 9:00! Cashiers and pricers are ready and waiting for the bargain hunters! Bake sale is ready to go! Outdoor signs have to be put out and coffee put on Friday-Same as Thursday Saturday-Bag day! Usually very busy...close up promptly at noon, and box up everything for Purple Heart pick up at 1:00 p.m. Did you know…that we need bubble wrap? Please save it and bring to church or drop off in the office Please consider helping at the September rummage sale. The community gets great prices, the congregation has a place to give the gently used items they no longer need, the church finances get a boost, and our unsold items continue doing good for the Purple Heart organization. See you in September! Carole Simons and Linda Maylone Rummage Sale Co-Chairs

Announcing the 2018 United Methodist Women’s In-Gathering Project
Everyone in the congregation is invited to join in and make a donation from the wish list of items (see below) to the Foster Closet of Michigan-Western Wayne County Branch. If you were in church on June 3, you were probably inspired (as I was) by Allison Johnson’s story and excited to make a donation to the Foster Closet. What an opportunity we all have to be supportive of those parents and families that have responded to the call for good foster homes for children and youth in need! You may bring in items anytime between June 3 and September 1. We will total up the value of the donated items, and report that amount to the Detroit Renaissance District United Methodist Women. There will be a collection basket in the Fellowship Hall. Thank you for your willingness to participate in the in-gathering-and for your generosity! Linda Maylone, President of the United Methodist Women P.S.: Ways to stretch your donation dollar: use coupons, watch sales, and always go to the clearance rack first! Wish List Baby wipes Teen girl deodorant (or ladies) Boys new underpants (size 6 and 8) Girls new underpants (size 6 and 8 as well as ladies 4,5 and 6) Diapers, all sizes but especially size 3 and 4 Gently used crib sheets and twin size sheet sets New or gently worn boys shoes size 10, 11 & 12 New or gently worn girls shoes size 10, 11, & 12 New socks size small and medium (boys and girls) Toothpaste; regular and also for kids (not the travel size, please) kids toothbrushes (0-7 yrs, smaller than adults)
