Our medical staff is led by a core group of pediatric emergency physicians, in addition to general pediatricians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Plastic surgeons, orthopedists and radiologists are available on-site as consultants. There is also a wide array of clinical staff including registered nurses, radiology technicians, medical assistants and an experienced management team at our corporate headquarters. All PM Pediatrics locations have on-site digital x-ray, ECG and a comprehensive laboratory, which in combination with the experience of our clincians, allow us to evaluate and treat high acuity patients. To date, we have seen over 1.3 million patients across our urgent care practices. A breakdown of our visits closely approximates that of a typical pediatric emergency department. About one third of our patients present with musculoskeletal injury requiring evaluation and additional procedures. Similarly, a large percentage of our medical patients require additional testing and/or prolonged treatment. Approximately 1% of our patients require additional treatment within a hospital setting. Emphasis is placed on patient service as we strive to turn a stressful time into a positive experience while delivering excellent care. This has led to an excellent reputation within the community, including referring physicians, local hospitals, schools and other establishments that cater to the needs of families. PM Pediatrics has 25 locations throughout the Northeast, with significant expansion planned over the next few years. All locations are open every day until midnight, 365 days a year. Welcome to the Fellowship Program in Pediatric Urgent Care Medicine at PM Pediatrics

In July 2012, PM Pediatrics launched the first-ever fellowship program in pediatric urgent care medicine. This is an exciting opportunity for graduating pediatric residents and pediatricians who wish to enter this emerging field of medicine. Our one-year program includes supervised clinical training at all PM Pediatrics sites, as well as rotations in Orthopedics, Radiology, ENT, Opthalmology, EMS, Allergy/Asthma, and Procedural Elective.

The fellowship in Pediatric Urgent Care Medicine is designed to close the gaps from pediatric residency training while enhancing the clinician's ability to practice in a high acuity, fast-paced environment. We supplement our clinical experience with subspecialty rotations, monthly lectures, procedural training workshops, and medical simulation, to accomplish the goal of creating academic and clinical experts in the emerging field of pediatric urgent care medicine. The graduate will develop the skills necessary to deliver expert care, manage a practice, and become a leader in the field.

Orientation 2 weeks

Academics 1 week (and throughout

Didactics

Administration and Leadership TrainingThe fellow will have the opportunity to learn about medicine as a business, with both formal and informal sessions in management, operations, finance, and marketing. There will also be opportunities to attend PM Pediatrics directors’ meetings as well as work with the site directors on various projects throughout the year.

ConferencesThe fellow will attend 2 conferences/month throughout the year at PM Pediatrics including: core lecture series, advanced lecture series, case discussions, and radiology review. The fellow will also be expected to present lectures and lead case presentations throughout the year.

ProceduresProcedure workshops as well as hands on experience throughout the year will provide the opportunity for the mastery of core procedures. A procedure log will be kept, and the fellowship director will ensure that the fellow has the opportunity to learn each necessary skill.

ResearchThis is a clinical fellowship, without a research requirement. However, scholarly activity and inquiry is always encouraged and research will be supported if the fellow so desires. Fellows are required to complete a Quality Improvement Project, Critically Appraised Topic, and Practice Guidelines which are then used in the clinical practice at PM Pediatrics.

Academic TrainingThe fellow will learn to critically appraise the literature through ongoing Journal Club and the creation of critically appraised topics. In addition, the fellow will participate in the creation of evidence-based practice guidelines. The fellow will also learn to create and present lectures and case presentations.
