name Fertrell is derived from parts of the words: Fertilizer— FER; Trace Minerals — TR; and Elements — EL.The Nutri Balancer feed line came into existence in
1974, when soil tests revealed shortages of nutrients inlocal farm land.Late in 1990, Mr. Miller decided to offer the company for
sale. Three of Fertrell’s employees, Dennis Nygaard,Reuben Gantz and David Mattocks, came together and pur-chased Mr. Miller’s stock and the ownership of The FertrellCompany. In 1996, under the direction of Mr. Jack Robinette, the
Fertrell Co. introduced Poultry Nutri Balancer. Jeff Mat-tocks, then-Company Vice President and nutritionist, hassuccessfully promoted this product across the UnitedStates.Dennis Nygaard retired in 1996, and Reuben Gantz re-
tired in 2000. David Mattocks continues as the chairman of
The Fertrell Company is the oldest producer of organicfertilizers in the United States. Their reputation for qualityand service is second to none. The growth in organic pro-duction over the past 70 years have helped the companycontinue to grow. The Organic Development Company relocated to the
present site at Bainbridge, PA in 1961. Liquid fertilizerswere added to the company’s offerings in that year. Rufus Miller became sales manager for Mr. Johnson and
began developing sales in the farming community, particu-larly among Amish and Mennonite farmers who have longappreciated the value of organic fertilizers. Much of ourgrowth can be attributed to word-of-mouth advertisingwithin the farming and gardening communities. In 1973, following the death of Mr. Johnson, the compa-
ny name became The Natural Development Company. Thename changed again in 1975 to The Fertrell Company. The
T he Organic Development Company
came into existence in 1946. The
company was formed to provide an alter-
native to commercial blends of salt and
acid based fertilizers. Mr. John Johnson had determined that his roses were not
meeting his expectations: their endurance
and fragrance were falling short of his stan-
dards. As a result, The Organic Development
Company was formed in Fullerton, Maryland, in
Mr. Johnson’s garage. He determined that by
mixing plant, animal, and mineral compounds
that his roses attained maximum performance.

kelp meal, trace minerals and the highest quality macrominerals available on the market. Our mission is to promote your animals’ health so that
they can perform at their fullest potential. It is our guaran-tee to you that we will continue to use high quality inputs tomanufacture our livestock, poultry and specialty supple-ments.
Fertilizers and Soil ConditionersFertrell fertilizers are biological plant foods, formulated toprovide “time released” nutrients for your crops through-out the entire growing season. Fertrell plant foods are aunique combination of products which feed both plants andsoil microorganisms. Fertrell fertilizers provide all the es-sential elements necessary for high-yield crop productionand soil management. At Fertrell, we have recognized thatthe soil is a living organism — a vital and valuable resource. Our products encourage a living, well balanced soil. The development of Fertrell products represents years
of research. We provide a complete organic and naturalproduct in one package — a plant food and soil conditionerthat stimulates and builds the soil while supplying the nec-essary nutrients for plant growth. Our goal is to advancesustainable agriculture with a strong commitment to prof-itable farming, healthy soils and optimal production.
board of Fertrell.Dave will never fully retire but he stopped coming to the
office in 2012 at age 76. He continues to help in the trainingof new and old staff members by teaching the history andphilosophy of the company. In 2003, Fertrell adopted an Employee Stock Owned
Plan (ESOP). This was an ideal that would continue Fer-trell for future generations of farmers and employees with-out needing to be sold to an outside entity. Fertrellcontinues to be employee-owed today. In 2017, construction began on a new warehouse and of-
fice building at the Bainbridge location. The project wascompleted in 2018 and has allowed Fertrell to expand bothproduction and employment.
Fertrell’s Livestock and Poultry Supplements
Fertrell’s vitamin mineral premixes came into existence in1974 after our existing fertilizer customers urged the own-ers of Fertrell to make livestock supplements. It was alsorecognized that forages and feeds no longer containedenough nutrients to sustain modern, high production breedperformance, making the need for balanced, organic andnatural vitamins and minerals all the greater.Fertrell Nutri Balancers contain a blend of microbials,

proteins and mined minerals, including blends of kelp, fish, feather and crab meals, sulfate of potash, and greensand, among others. We support certified organic, natural, biological, and
sustainably-minded farmers and produce products accord-ing to their needs and specifications. Sustainable agricul-ture is our passion and expertise.
A New BuildingWith the growth of business over the years, Fertrell out-grow the original office and warehouse. After two years ofplanning, we moved in our new building in May of 2019.While all of production still happens in the original manu-facturing plant from 1961 (with some new additions tobuildings over time), a new warehouse and office were nec-essary to accommodate staff and storage for our products. With this expansion, Fertrell could eliminate the incon-
venience and cost of an off-site warehouse. The shippingdepartment became much more efficient, with an addition-al dock and more staging area for loads.
Fertrell FertilizersFertrell fertilizers are natural and organic blends that pro-vide the elements required to build a healthy and produc-tive soil. Through the action of soil microbes, Fertrellfertilizers provide plants with a complete ration of nourish-ment during their growing season. By using Fertrell fertil-izers you are helping to ensure crop quality as well as cropproductivity.Fertrell fertilizers are a balanced plant food and soil
conditioner that provide both macro- and micro nutrientsto facilitate optimal growth. Fertrell products have a last-ing effect with ingredients that release nutrients through-out the growing season, stimulating plant growth and soillife. Our products help your soils to become richer by:• Feeding soil microbes• Supplying trace elements• Stimulating humus production
Fertrell uses only the highest quality ingredients avail-able. Our blends are produced to meet the needs of our cus-tomers. The basis of our products are animal and vegetable

Tips For Taking Soil Samples• Soil samples should be taken from the top 6 inches of the field.
• Samples should be taken from several areas of a field. These samples should representthe good and poor areas in that field. The size of the field determines the number ofsamples.
• Samples should be mixed in a clean plastic pail with a wooden stick and poured into aplastic bag or the bag provided by the lab.
• We recommend that samples notbe touched by hands without gloves.
• For row crops, the best time forsampling is after the crop is mature orharvested. Hayfields, pastures andlawns may be sampled anytime whenthe temperature is above 40° F.
• Soil test should be taken at leastevery 2–3 years, however under cer-tain circumstances yearly samplesmaybe necessary.
Note: Soil probes are not contained inthe test kit.
Soil TestingSoil testing is the agronomist’s map tosupplying the best blended fertilizerfor your soil type and specific crops.
Soil samples should be a true repre-sentation of the area sampled; resultswill reflect only the nutrient status ofthe sample revived.
Test kits are available from Fertrell oryour Fertrell dealer at no charge. Thelab fee will be billed at the end of themonth when we receive the invoicefrom the lab.
Please send completed test form withsample directly to Agri Analysis orA&L Lab. This will help expedite theprocess.
Please allow 2 weeks for the report.
Tips For Taking Tissue Samples• When taking tissue samples, as near as possible, select plant parts representative ofthe particular variety and growing area. Further instructions are available from the labsor Fertrell office.
• Sample collection is critical. Make sure to take representative sample according to in-structions provided by lab, available through Fertrell. If a tissue analyses is to be repre-sentative, the appropriate part of the plant should be collected.
• Tissue analysis may be useful for diagnostic purposes as well. It is critical the sameplant part be sampled at the same time, taking a sample from problem area and a near-by normal area for comparative purposes.
Tissue TestingTest kits and instructions for takingsamples are available from Fertrell oryour Fertrell Dealer at no additionalcost. As with the soil tests kits, the labfee will be billed at the end of themonth when we receive the invoicefrom the lab.
For optimal growth, development, andproduction plants require a continu-ous well-adjusted supply of nutrients.Plant tissue analysis in conjunctionwith soil testing is a good way to devel-op a balanced fertility program.

Coarse AragoniteAragonite is a naturally occurring calciumsource that is collected in the Bahamas. Oth-erwise known as Bahama sand. This calciumsource naturally replenishes itself by the gulfstream precipitating fine particles of sea shelland coral from dead sea life. We believe thecalcium in aragonite is more available to theanimals because it was already dissolved andused by another life form. Therefore, Coarsearagonite is a great alternative to oyster shellsor limestone chips for poultry.
