MEET FESTIVAL C IT Y SYMPHONY MUSIC IAN —ANN LOBOTZKE

Ann Lobotzke.has.played.harp.with.Festival.City.Symphony.for.10.years.

Birthplace:..Milwaukee

Education:..University.of.Wisconsin-Milwaukee,.Bachelor.of.Fine.Arts.degree.in.Harp.Performance,.Wisconsin.Conservatory.of.Music,.Master.of.Music.degree.in.Harp.Performance

What I enjoy most about playing the harp:..the.sound.of.it.and.the.capacity.it.has.for.touching.people’s.hearts.

What I like least (or find most challenging) about playing the harp: moving.it.and.tuning.it.

Other instruments I play:..piano.and.flute

Other musical involvements:..I.play.second.harp.for.the.Milwaukee.Symphony.Orchestra.and.am.principal.harp.with.the.Milwaukee.Ballet.Orchestra...I’m.on.the.music.faculty.of.the.University.of.Wisconsin-Milwaukee.and.am.a.registered.Suzuki.harp.instructor...I.served.several.terms.on.the.executive.board.of.the.Milwaukee.Musicians.Union.

Non-musical activities:..I.like.to.read,.do.needlework,.and.I’m.fond.of.traveling.whenever.I.have.the.chance...Most.recently,.I.spent.a.week.in.Cornwall,.England.

Music I play on my iPOD, CD player:..My.playlists.include.study.music.for.upcoming.concerts,.Celtic,.British,.classical,.and.American.songbook...Although.it’s.not.music,.I.often.have.audio.books.downloaded.

Favorite musical memory:..Performing.in.Carnegie.Hall.and.the.Kennedy.Center.with.the.Milwaukee.Symphony...I.was.aware.of.the.rich.history.of.each.of.these.venues.and.honored.to.be.a.small.part.of.it.

Advice to young musicians: Spend.time.with.your.instrument.every.day...Consistency.is.the.key.to.being.a.good.musician...If.you.are.in.college,.consider.practicing.and.rehearsing.as.your.primary.job...You.will.never.again.have.as.much.time.to.learn.new.repertoire.or.as.many.people.with.whom.to.play.chamber.music.
