Even in the face of this struggle, let’s be thankful for the things we do have. In that spirit I wish you all best in this Holiday Season. Stay safe and God bless you all. Fraternally, Valentine R. Re: Local 89 Updates and Announcements

Dear Brothers, Sisters and Esteemed Retirees:

During these challenging times of the Covid-19 pandemic and with winter approaching, I ask all of you to be extra careful and follow all CDC guidelines for your safety. Please wear a mask when outside and social distance the best you can. Also, wash your hands often. According to the CDC, these measures greatly reduce your chances of contracting the virus.

Local 89 has taken special precautions to continue to serve you both in the field and at the office. Our Union Representatives continue to visit jobsites to protect your interests and make sure you get the full benefit of the collective bargaining agreements we have negotiated with the employers. However, they will always wear masks and social distance to protect themselves and to protect you.

Our staff is still working hard on your behalf at our offices in San Diego and San Marcos. For everyone’s safety we allow only staff to enter the building. At the San Diego office, we conduct all in person meetings with members outside the building facility. Starting on January 7, 2021, we will also conduct in person meetings with members outside the building in San Marcos. We follow all CDC guidelines during our meetings with members.

We are conducting all our general membership meetings by Zoom videoconferencing and will continue to do so until further notice. We welcome your attendance and participation. Please call our office if you need assistance with the procedure to login for a meeting. Our next meeting is December 19, 2020. As with our past practice, we will host a raffle for all members who participate via Zoom videoconference. We will also continue our tradition of distributing holiday gifts to the membership. This will occur in January, and we will announce the details at the December 19 meeting. I hope to see you at the meeting!

Roll call is done by telephone until further notice, so please remember to call our office between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. on roll call day to maintain your position on the out of work list. Please note January roll call will be on January 8, 2021, because of the New Year Holiday.

By this time, many of us know people who have gotten sick or died from COVID-19. When this is all over, I want to make sure I see all of you in person, so please stay safe and continue to be LIUNA strong. Even in the face of this struggle, let’s be thankful for the things we do have. In that spirit I wish you all best in this Holiday Season. Stay safe and God bless you all.
