Readings

FROM THE ADMINISTRATOR’S DESK

Will our hearts be ready?

God scolds David for trying to build Him a house of gold, when He has been perfectly satisfied to live in a

tent. This tent called the Ark of the Covenant had poles attached so that it could be easily carried from place

to place. In later times, the Ark of the Covenant rested in the Holy of Holies in the Temple that David's son,

Solomon, built. As we know, there were actually two temples after that - one called the Temple of Zerubbabel

and then the Temple built by Herod.

The point in this first reading is that God is going to do something truly awesome. He will build his own

Temple. For this, He choose a human person who is “full of grace”, obedient, and loving. Mary is God's Tem-

ple. "Let it be done to me according to your Word." "Fiat voluntas tua."

How can this fulfil God's promise to David that He will place His Son, Jesus, someday on David's throne?

Through the fact that Mary herself is a descendant of the House of David!

God will come into the world through His Son, Jesus. He will be born in a stable, die on a cross and only then

find His permanent throne in that heaven from which He came!

Brothers and sisters, if we can only say a simple, unqualified "yes" as Mary did, life could be so simple, and

God would be so pleased with us. That's why it's so important that all of us confess our sinfulness before

Christmas, and be absolved of anything that could keep Jesus out of our hearts. Advent ends this week and

Christmas is just around the corner, when Jesus will be born in hearts that are prepared to receive Him. Will

our hearts be ready?

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING

God. our Father, all the elements of na-

ture obey your command. We praise

and thank you for your protection dur-

ing the hurricane season We ask again

to guide us through a new year, free of

any earthquakes, floods, natural disas-

ters and all acts of terrorism. Bless our

families and bring peace to all nations.

We ask this through our Lord Jesus

Christ who lives and reigns with you

and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever

and ever. Amen.
