Complimentary wireless Internet is available at the Biltmore in the lobbies, restaurants and other public spaces, as well as in guest rooms. FICPI-U.S. has purchased wireless Internet to be available for delegates in the meeting room.

Conference Registration

Conference registration will be open on Sunday, March 12 from 3:00pm - 6:00pm. The registration desk will be located opposite the elevators near the main lobby and the Alhambra Ballroom. If you are not able to register on Sunday evening, registration will be open before the first delegate session on Monday morning.

Transportation to Events & Where to Meet

Transportation is provided to all offsite events. Meeting times can be found on the schedule. Please meet in the Biltmore Lobby at least five minutes before the scheduled meeting time so that the group can depart on schedule.

Attire

Business casual clothing is recommended for all working program sessions and dinners during the conference, except for the closing gala at the Pérez Art Museum Miami on Wednesday evening, when cocktail attire (jacket and tie for men) is recommended. Flat, comfortable shoes are recommended for the walking tours and Everglades tour, and golf or other outdoor activities will require activity-appropriate clothing. Please see the activity descriptions for more information.

The southern end of the 10-mile barrier island of Miami Beach is home to the Art Deco district, the only location in the United States to be so designed. The speaker will discuss the growth in China and how it relates to IP and explain how China is achieving such remarkable growth. He will relay what he believes will happen in the IP realm as a result of China’s most re-cent five-year plan, and the opportunities it will bring to our firms.

Speaker (11:30am-12:30pm): Honorable Paul R. Michel, Chief Judge, Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (Retired)

Judge Michel will discuss IP issues in Congress and the Courts, EU/U.K. and Canada IP developments, and the tensions between U.S. and Canada patent law. He will include a Q&A session at the end of his talk.

Miami’s Wynwood District, a once forsaken area of dilapidated warehouses, train yards and depressed real estate, has blossomed into one of the country’s most vibrant art enclaves. With a professional guide, walk streets filled with installations, murals and cutting-edge graffiti. During the tour, learn about the area’s work-ing-class roots, struggles to find a ‘place’ for local urban artists, and the amazing transformation in the neigh-borhood championed by a few farsighted individuals.

Flat shoes, comfortable clothes, hats, sunscreen and sunglasses are recommended.

2:00pm - 5:00pmOptional Afternoon Activity 3 - Paddle Boarding at Crandon ParkMeet in Biltmore lobby at 1:50pmPre-Registration Required

Upon arrival at Crandon Park, guides will give a brief introduction, including a crash course on paddle board-ing, before we head out into the shallow seagrass beds. We will paddle at a leisurely pace along the man-groves toward the Ibis Preserve Island, as our guides talk about the adaptations of mangroves to salt water conditions and point out the various species of coastal birds that roost and breed on the island.

Closed-toe shoes are required; comfortable clothing/swimsuits and hat, sunglasses and sunscreen recom-mended. It is suggested that you bring an extra set of clothing as you might get wet. Towels will be provided.

The Pérez Art Museum Miami is a modern and contemporary art museum dedicated to collecting and exhib-iting international art of the 20th and 21st centuries. You will enjoy private gallery access for the first hour, with a knowledgeable docent available to provide information about the art. Following your gallery visit, enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres on the third floor terrace, followed by an elegant meal in the Hoffman Boardroom featuring entertainment from local musicians.
