December 8, 2016 Dear Parents, It is December! Unbelievable how the weeks continue to fly by. Two years ago, discussion started about modernization plans for D.A. Ferguson and W.R. Myers High School. As the planning continued to progress, challenges were identified. One of the biggest challenges was the determination that the 1949 section of W.R. Myers is a wooden building and does not meet current building code regulations. In order for the project to proceed, the 1949 wing would need to be demolished and the space allocated for Myers would shift and shrink. One idea being reviewed involves reconfiguration of the schools; elementary schools would be K-6 and create one grade 7-12 school. Parent voice is valuable and all parents are invited to a Community Forum on Monday, December 12 at 7:00 pm at Central School to discuss potential reconfiguration of Taber schools and the modernization project of DAF and Myers. We only have about two weeks until the Christmas holidays and then a few weeks in January before the first semester comes to a close. There is often some anxiety about upcoming exams and time becomes more urgent as the end of an academic term looms ever closer. I remind my students to take it one step at a time – one assignment at a time, one exam at a time. Give it the time that the task needs and deserves; also, give yourself the time you need as well. Breathe and maintain balance and get the work done. If you need help, make some noise – we are here! Congratulations to all of our athletes who completed the fall round of sports! We had an exciting start to the year. Thank you to all volleyball, football and cross country coaches!! Your time never goes un-noticed. Likewise, thank you to all upcoming coaches! You are heading into a cold stretch of the year and usually have a long and busy season. To all of our athletes involved in basketball, curling and wrestling – enjoy your season, make friends along the way and collect positive memories. Rebel Pride! Thank you to our parents on our School Council! Thanks to you, we will once again be hosting the annual Christmas Pancake Breakfast on December 23, during block one (until 9:20). I love the atmosphere that we create in the gym that morning – definitely a favourite event! If you would like to drop in, please join us. I am seeing audition posters for our spring musical of Fiddler on the Roof. What I know for sure is that the kids involved in a musical are a big, happy group who commit a lot of time. They have a huge amount of fun and are very proud of the finished product. There is always a fantastic buzz in the building when we are “in production mode!” Hope to see you at our Christmas Concert on Thursday, December 15 at 7:00 pm. Our bands are sure to give you another dose of holiday cheer! Take Care, Johanna Kutanzi

Dear Parents,

It is December!

Our boys and girls hosted the first tournament of the year this past weekend. It was a very successful weekend. On way to making it to the final we beat Willow Creek and Immanuel Christian, both victories were team efforts with all girls providing points for the team. In the final, we played Cardston, which was a hard fought defensive battle with our girls having a great come-back in the fourth quarter, to win 38-31. Special mention to: Reagan Bailey, Austen Robbins, Dani

Wright. and Alex Haller.

The JV boys won 3rd. in the tournament. The first game finished with a win against Claresholm’s Willow Creek Cobras. Saturday morning brought on the Cardston Cougars, who in mid-season

form, were too sharp for our boys after only 2 practices. The third place game was a contest against Medicine Hat High Mowhawks. Tied after regulation the boys pulled out an exciting overtime win to claim 3rd. place. Congrats to all the boys for an excellent tournament. Thank you to the amazing

crowds who came out and cheered on the Rebels!

Grace Holowiski and Torrance Gedny attended the ITF National Championships in Trois Rivieres in Quebec. It was a three day event from November 25-27th with competitors from

across Canada.

In order for the girls to qualify at the next National Championships, which is also the selections for Team Canada at the World Championships in Ireland, they need to accumulate seeding

points. The top 2 from each division move into the tier A selections and they bring in 2 from the B division for round robin selections.

Both ladies competed in patterns, sparring, power breaking and specialty breaking. They did an

amazing job! Gold in sparring, silver in specialty breaking for Torrance! Grace received top overall junior female award! Gold in sparring, gold in power and gold in specialty.

The next few months we will be changing up there training schedules, attending more tournaments and going to some seminars in Calgary and Prince George.—Brandi Merritt-
