Austin Java is also located in the heart of the 2nd street Warehouse district of downtown, right behind City Hall. It ca-ters to mainly the homeless, the super rich, Hipsters and everyone in between. They serve a full menu all day and start lunch at 11:00. This location serves more of a quick restaurant, but doesn’t usually have bands or activities.

Bouldin Creek Cafe is more of a restau-rant than a coffee shop, however, they are known for their locally roasted, organic blends. The clientele includes young families, people in their 20’s, stu-dents, artists and older couples. They have movies, performances and secret shows.

Caffe Medici is tucked away in the old neigh-borhoods near west campus alongside a few other local businesses. Most of their clients include people from the neighborhood and students. It is family owned and all items are made in the traditional Italian fashion. Pas-teries and sandwiches are made at the other location and brought here. Their Machiato is very traditional, coming in a shot glass with a little bit of milk on the top.

Dolce Vita is located in the old neighbor-hood of Hyde Park just north of UT. They serve a full menu all day and has more of a busy restaurant feel. It is surrounded by other family owned Hyde Park busi-nesses. They’re known for their coffee, but you can’t forget the Sorberita! It’s made with their fresh strawberry gela-to. Students, artists and locals of all ages from Hyde park hangout here.

Dominican Joe’s is located just north of the tourist and local filled soco district, and just south of the hustle and bustle of downtown. They serve mostly students, being incredibly near two universities, and also business people. They host SXSW shows annually and fundraisers each month for various organizations around town.

Flipnotics is a large coffee shop locat-ed in the Barton Springs area of town which sees mostly regulars, locals from the neighborhood just up the hill, musi-cians and students. Live music is played every night around either 6/7 or 8/9. They keep it local by serving East Side Pies and fresh empanadas daily.

Hot Mamas is on east 6th past all of the old hipster bars and restaurants in a newly renovated area and under the Pedernales Lofts. Most of their custom-ers include locals and residents of the lofts. They make fresh pasteries every-day and cook up a full menu in their tiny kitchen. Their cozy couches and quaint music are very welcoming. Try it some-time, she even calls you “Mama!”

Irie Bean is a more social coffee bar with a bar atmosphere, which serves every-one from locals, to young families to lo-cals from nearby neighborhoods. Every so often they see students. They work closely with the taco shop next door, but don’t serve any of their own food. Some activities inlcude open mic nights, shows on the stage in the backyard and “Yappee Hour” for dogs to come hangout!

Most of their busi-ness comes from Town Hall, but some are also business people. Bands play shows every once in a while, but they do TV showings often of Dexter and True Blood episodes. The outside patio is a big attraction on sunny days.
