Live Animal Presentation Shapiro Family Science Live! Stage Green Wing, Lower Level20 minutes (check the Museum map/guide for presentation schedule)
With help from members of the Museum’s live animal collection, educators address behaviors, environments, classification, and adaptations. Observe a live animal and consider the characteristics and adaptations that help it live in its environment.

Examine hundreds of real animal, plant, and fossil specimens from the Museum’s collection and make observations about the species that you see. Notice their similarities and differences and learn how they fit into our classification system.

Learn about Evolution and Natural Selection
Exhibit Investigation: Evolution Colossal Fossil: Triceratops CliffBlue Wing, Lower LevelAdvance reservations required. Join Museum educators for a facilitated exploration of Colossal Fossil: Triceratops Cliff. Participating schools will need to divide students into groups of 30 – 40; each group should plan to spend 30 minutes in the exhibit.
What models do scientists use to understand evolution and the relationships between species? Students explore different ways that scientists understand evolution: from identifying how natural selection allows a species to evolve and adapt, to using a cladogram to discover the relationship between modern birds and dinosaurs.

Get a feel for New England’s natural environment with classic dioramas that offer windows on wide-ranging landscapes. Examine how each animal is uniquely adapted to survive in its own specific habitat.
