MASSES FOR THE WEEK

Page 4: FIFTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JULY 14, 2019 filePARISH MISSION STATEMENT: Saint Monica is a welcoming Catholic faith community. Proclaiming the power of WEEKEND MASS SCHEDUL the

Testament reading from Deuteronomy praises

God for inscribing the commandments in our

very bodies. God’s law is not distant or foreign,

but a natural part of us. In his letter to

the Colossians, Saint Paul echoes Moses,

praising God for becoming one of us.

The truly human, flesh-and-blood Jesus reminds

us that God always wants to be recognizable

and familiar to us. Jesus, who is also truly God,

wants to be on intimate terms with each of us.

God’s passionate desire to be known by us is

almost too wonderful to take in. Luke’s Gospel

helps us understand how to respond. The Good

Samaritan parable provides practical advice

for those who believe in God’s intimate love for

them and want to share that love with others.

On a summer day, with the windows open, we may hear the sound of church bells. Bells seem to have come into church life in Irish monasteries around the seventh century, and spread around the Christian world by Irish monks on missionary journeys. By the eighth century, bells were standard equipment in even small parish churches. An ancient ceremony, once called the “baptism of the bells,” recognizes that the church bell has a voice to call people to awareness and summon them to worship, and even bestows a name on the bell. In a world without clocks or watches, the bell had an indispensable role. For calling monks in from the fields for prayer, or alerting far‑flung visitors, the bell’s voice was enhanced by hoisting it high into a tower. Soon it was learned that the sound of several bells clanging together in harmony imparted a sense of joy to great celebrations, and bell towers prospered, some chock full of bells. Different combinations of rings could indicate a death, a Mass, a wed-ding, a fast day, the curfew at the end of day, and the Angelus. Before electricity, bell-ringing was hard work indeed: the biggest bell in the Catholic world, in Cologne, Germany, weighs twenty‑seven tons! There’s no substitute for the resonant roar of a mighty bell; electric chimes are not eligible for blessing!

The Boy Scouts from St. Monica Troop 943, under the leadership of the Eagle Scout candidate

Timothy Guratowski, replaced the greenery in front of the East wall of the St. Monica Chicago Parish

House. They did an outstanding job, it was very hard but all the effort they put into it paid off. It looks

fantastic. This project was done on June 18-19, 2019 and was sponsored by the generosity of the

following companies: Lurvey Des Plaines, Des Plaines Material and Supply, Homedepot Niles

(Dempster St, and Oakton St), Jewel-Osco - Foster Ave, Jewel-Osco - Irving Park Rd, Lowes Chicago

Brickyard, Homedepot Brickyard, Menards Melrose Park, Menards Niles, Sarpinos Pizza Harwood

Heights, and some private donors.

THANK YOU SO MUCH TO ALL THAT WERE INVOLVED IN THIS INCREDIBLE PROJECT.

Please take a walk by the Parish House and enjoy the beautiful landscaping.

NIEDZIELA XV NIEDZIELA ZWYKŁA

Kto się w opiekę odda Panu Swemu,

A całym sercem szczerze ufa Jemu,

Śmiele rzec może: Mam obrońcę Boga,

Nie przyjdzie na mnie

żadna straszna trwoga.

Ciebie On z łowczych obieży wyzuje

I w zaraźliwym powietrzu ratuje,

W cieniu Swych skrzydeł

zachowa cię wiecznie,

Pod Jego pióry uleżysz bezpiecznie.

PSALM:

„Ożyje serce szukających Boga.

Czego chcesz od nas, Panie,

za Twe hojne dary?

Czego za dobrodziejstwa,

którym nie masz miary?

Kościół Cię nie ogarnie, wszędy pełno Ciebie,

I w otchłaniach, i w morzu, na ziemi, na niebie.

Złota też, wiem, nie pragniesz,

bo to wszytko Twoje,

Cokolwiek na tym świecie człowiek mieni swoje.

Wdzięcznym Cię tedy sercem, Panie,

wyznawamy,

Bo nad to przystojniejszej ofiary nie mamy.

Tyś pan wszytkiego świata,

Tyś niebo zbudował

I złotymi gwiazdami ślicznieś uhaftował;

Tyś fundament założył nieobeszłej ziemi

I przykryłeś jej nagość zioły rozlicznemi.

Za Twoim rozkazaniem

w brzegach morze stoi,

A zamierzonych granic przeskoczyć się boi;

Rzeki wód nieprzebranych wielką hojność mają.

Biały dzień, a noc ciemna swoje czasy znają.

Bądź na wieki pochwalon,

nieśmiertelny Panie!

Twoja łaska, Twa dobroć nigdy nie ustanie.

Chowaj nas, póki raczysz, na tej niskiej ziemi;

Jedno zawżdy niech będziem pod skrzydłami Twemi!

O mój Jezu w Hostii skryty,

Na kolanach wielbię Cię,

W postać chleba Tyś spowity,

Bóstwo Twoje kryje się;

Ty, co rządzisz całym światem,

Me zbawienie w ręku masz;

Tu przed Twoim Majestatem

Aniołowie kryją twarz.

O światłości przysłoniona,

Rzuć mi Twój promienny blask,

O dobroci nieskończona,

Otwórz dla nas skarby łask;

Chlebie życia przeobfity,

Nasyć duszy mojej głód;

Boski ogniu tu zakryty,

Rozgrzej serca mego chłód.

Jezu, Tyś jest Zbawicielem,

Mnie od zgubnych ustrzeż dróg,

Bądź mi siłą i weselem,

Bo w tej Hostii Tyś mój Bóg;

Dla miłości Matki Swojej

Racz wysłuchać prośbę mą:

Bądź Miłości w duszy mojej,

Nie gardź moją cichą łzą.

Królowej Anielskiej śpiewajmy,

różami uwieńczmy Jej skroń!

Jej serca w ofierze składajmy,

ze łzami wołajmy doń:

O Maryjo, bądź nam pozdrowiona,

bądź Ty zawsze Matką nam!

Przez Ciebie, o Matko miłości,

łask wszelkich udziela nam Bóg!

A my Ci hołd dajem wdzięczności,

udpadłszy do Twoich nóg!

O lilijo, jakżeś Ty wspaniała:

Wszelkich cnót rozlewasz woń!
